So, my first (legit) ex-girlfriend found out a couple days ago that she has HPV, and it's probably the cancerous kind, and I'm crying about it.

This is one of the sweetest girls I've ever known, and something so troutty couldn't have happened to someone less deserving of it. She'll probably need half of her cervix amputated, and now she may not have an opportunity to be a mommy in the future.

I don't even know how to really react to this. I can absolutely support her in any way possible, if she just wants someone to listen of course, but I feel so completely lost otherwise.

Today is not a happy day.

I always hate those moments when people get terrible diseases or lose a family member or something and there is absolutely nothing you can say that will help make things right. There's just nothing. The best you can do is let her know that you're there for her if she needs anything.

Thanks guys - it's pretty much exactly the same for me. Like... I feel awful FOR her, and awful that I can't really do anything to fix the situation.

    I like fixing things.

This isn't something I can fix.

Have you made sure to get yourself checked just in case?

I know that it really only affects women, but you might want to make sure you don't have an STD so you're not spreading it to other women.

Oh, TB, she and I were together like... almost a decade ago. And we never had any form of sexual contact. But I appreciate the concern - I get myself checked out during and after every new sexual partner.
