I realize there's something incredibly weabooish in making Haohmaru my avatar and then posting the Samurai Creed, but there's a story that goes along with it.

Any of you guys who've ever been intimidated by your father-in-law have got absolutely nothing on me.

You see, my father in law was also my [URL="http://www.nikkodojo.org/5.html"]sensei.[/URL]

And this wasn't one of those meat-market, 5-year-olds can come in and play fight on the mat places. They stick to the Funikoshi. Just read through some of the material there and you'll get the idea.

My father-in-law was a fourth degree black belt in this dojo when I got married, and before I got divorced, he was promoted to fifth degree.

There wasn't really ever a way I could say "I'm not that interested in martial arts" because 1) It would be a lie, and 2) It would be a big fat stupid lie.

(Interesting side note: Mike-Sensei was an avid Final Fantasy player.)

So during the time that he lived close to us here in Nashville, I briefly trained under him. I was going to try to join the dojo, but my marriage fell through before any of that came to fruition.

But I do have to say one more time that these guys are not kidding around. They observe Reishiki down to the letter, for real. It was a most profound experience.

I probably will never train in Kenjitsu and Iaido like I wanted...I've become far too old, and drank far too much.

But I think my writing is coming along nicely.
