2014 New Year Resolutions.

Rate this Entry
okay, so I normally don't make resolutions, but I think I came up with two that I want to keep.

1. Stop being so negative on myself and think more positively. (This would be easier if my mom stopped talking down on me.)
2. Start improving my stamina and endurance.

So, for resolution #2, I'd like some advice and/or tips from my fellow EoFFers who could share some pointers on what I can do to improve my stamina and endurance. I figure I could start running (well walking/jogging) for awhile and eating healthy (which I am sort of doing thanks to my mom.). Let's make 2014 a good year for me!

What worked for me is starting small and increasing. When I haven't gone for walks in a while I just start out at a half and hour. Then I just keep walking longer depending on when I'm comfortable doing it. Sometimes it's a day, sometimes it's a few weeks. Then I just walk longer and longer and before I know it I can walk a few hours no problem. Same with weight lifting or whatever. Set a starting goal and when it gets easy, increase.

If you have a DS or a DS Emulator there's a little game called My Weight Loss Coach (check coolrom.com). It isn't the most accurate but its actually really fun and has helped me keep an eye on what I eat and do exercise. It encourages healthy eating, also. It doesn't just ask you to cut calories, it asks you to eat a certain amount depending on your size and how much activity you did that day. Sometimes I even get to eat more. It's a lot of fun. There's supposed to be a pedometer so if you emulate it, just tell them you will insert the pedometer later, reset the game and they'll let you input the number of steps you do manually from then on.

    I hope this helps!

Shion is spot on with the walking. I usually make a playlist or listen to the radio through my phone and just enjoy exploring the scenery around my neighborhood.

As for negativity, I know it can be difficult when you're in a negative environment. It's taken me a long time to attempt to metally remove myself from negative situations, but trying to do so can help.

I got a head start today. I was out for a walk for about an hour. I walked 2 miles around the neighborhood, but I found myself wearing out nearing the end. I'll be doing this every other day on the days I don't have my dialysis. I figure it's a good way to improve my stamina.
