Who's ever heard of a dreamer that can't sleep?

I've never blogged before, ever! So I suppose if I am to start might as well start with something that is really bothering me lately!

I don't remember the last time I got a goodnight's sleep! I would say it has been years! The kind of restful sleep were when you wake up the next day you feel rested, fully recharged and ready to grab life by the scruff of the neck.

The problem seems to stem from this weird burst of energy I seem to get around about midnight every night without fail! I got this burst of energy regardless of when I got to bed the night before. Could have slept 1 hour could have slept 12 hours regardless BOOM come midnight I'm wide awake like a child on a sugar rush.

Given that this has been a persistent problem I decided to do some research on the subject. Some sources say eating after 8pm can cause the problem. So I stopped eating after 8pm. Did it help? No! Some sources say a proper diet can help the problem. Again no help at all. Some sources say excessive alcohol consumption can cause erratic sleeping habit, so I tried drinking less often and again no change. 12 midnight and wide awake. Then I looked into herbal remedies to help me sleep and again no use!

This problem is becoming a real pain because it means it is 3:30am at the earliest and after 6am at the latest before I am able to sleep. This of course has lead to getting up a lot later in the day which if I wasn't unemployed would become an bigger problem than it already is!

So having exhausted all other avenues I am beginning to think that I may want to visit my doctor to see can he help. My problem with this is the doctor is more then likely going to write me a prescription for some sleeping tablets. What is wrong with this you ask, if you get the good nights sleep you desire. Well the problem is I am literally afraid that if sleeping pills help me sleep so well that my body comes to rely upon them in order to fall asleep. I would rather stick with falling asleep exhausted between 3:30-6 then reliant on sleeping pills.

Right I guess I will leave my 1st ever blog entry at that, it is 3:16am and I think I should at least go try to get some sort of sleep. Peace

I hear working out can help! I get the same way though. When do you wake up? If you're body is on the 3-noon schedule then it gets in the rhythm of being up then. Try waking up early and being up for a long time till your body is like "smurf YOU I NEED SLEEP" then go to sleep at a regular time (BEFORE MIDNIGHT) and just try to get your body's sleeping schedule adjusted.

Also blue lights and well lights in general, avoid them for an hour before bed. It messes with your system into thinking it's still day time. Also try melatonin . Wiki says "When used several hours before sleep, the compound shifts the circadian clock earlier, thus promoting earlier sleep onset and morning awakening." You can get it at your drug store next to all the vitamins and stuff. Blue light prevents natural melatonin from being produced and it's what knocks you out.

also congrats on your first blog post!

The smurf you I need sleep approach doesn't work, I get the energy boast regardless.

The light in the living room of my apartment is very bright so I might try sitting in an area with lower light before bed.

Melatonin I well also look into

    Thanks Freya

Or just ring me up and I'll spout techno-babble at you until you fall asleep. Seems to work pretty well in the pub.

Sometimes after I wake up to pee or poo, I can't fall back to sleep leaving me tired for the whole day!

But most of the time I get a really good sleep is if something really pleasant happened in the day leaving me with no worries for a good night sleep!
