Frustrated Writer Present

Rate this Entry
Yeah, yeah, I know. Frustrated writer is so original.

Technically, I write pretty regularly when it comes to my reviews, but when it comes to the fiction I used to write I've fallen back quite a bit. I was working on a novel, even made it as far as chapter nine, but then I got burnt out and never went back to it. The last time I saw something through to the end that wasn't a review was an old Harry Potter fanfic I wrote in a notebook pencil and all before I even had a computer. Somehow, I haven't managed to capture that same fire.

It's not like I'm low on ideas. I have a ton of characters and settings that have developed in my head over the past nine years all from just role-playing and going with the flow. I can count five city-states off the top of my head that could act as their own books, putting them all in the same book would end up in a trilogy at the very least. Nine chapters and 20,000+ words into the last novel I attempted and I was STILL in the starting location because there was so much ground to cover in that one area alone. And this isn't even counting all the AUs that like to pop up in my head. The problem is choosing which idea to write down and then being able to stick with it. I'm about ready to call it a quits, really. Just stick with reviewing video games and let myself slowly go crazy from the 1,000 ideas that will never come to life.

God, this is depressing as smurf. I need to end with a joke.

Poop.

Poop is always funny.

Poop is always funny, unless somehow a horrifying realization sweeps over you that you've come in contact with it.

Writer's block sucks. ALWAYS. Always. I get it regularly sometimes with some really great ideas but I find that it's actually much easier for me to be creative when I'm actually writing on paper. When I'm typing, for some reason I lack a lot more detail than I would add when writing. If you're usually an electronic writer, perhaps you could try some old traditions of pen and paper?

    Just a suggestion.

Ironically not long after making this blog post I began writing again after an outline finally formed itself in my head. Though I'll remember that in case it ever happens again.

I know what you mean. My novel is going really slowly, but I found that writing shorts really helps in developing my writing skills and organizing ideas. Just coming up with ideas for short stories helps you organize your ideas and work better.

Also, have you visited Scotty_ffgamer's blog yet? He has some tips regarding motivation which have helped me out quite a bit

I didn't even know he had a blog. I'm not the most observant person on here.

I don't really tell people about it, especially at this point since I haven't really been updating it for a while. Eventually I might get into it, especially if I start working on getting a teaching job again since its purpose was to be a resource for my classroom, heh.
