I Love You, Man

Rate this Entry
After watching this film featuring Paul Rudd and Jason Segel about a guy who struggles to find a best man for his wedding because he'd fallen out with all his male friends and had become more a "girlfriend guy", I've realised that I am going to be this guy when I get engaged.

I had a big group of high school friends I used to catch up with quite regularly, but in the 5 years since high school's finished, the big groups kind of broken up into smaller groups or pairs and since I'm the guy who's always been in the long-term relationship, I rarely caught up with anyone and haven't done so in a year or so. I've got a few workmates from a previous job I see regularly, but they're looking to move back to their home countries after getting their degrees pretty soon. My uni friends are all female. There were only nine blokes studying social work and I didn't get to know any of them.

I'm not really bothered by this, by the way. The film just got me thinking...

Anyone else in the same boat?

I'm already in the same boat and I graduated in 09. I only see the two guys I take to uni and one or two girls that study there. It's depressing as smurf and I can't even blame a woman. Everybody just doesn't remember to invite the Jiro

I'll be your best man Mo

Even though I never plan on getting married I find I will also have a similar problem that I have a lot of equally close friends and wouldnt want to pick between them since the ones i see frequently arent quite best man close, and I havent seen the people who are best man material in years. So chances are I'll just go with my brother even though were not that close, it's the easiest solution.

However what you need Mo is a backup, like friends who say "if were not married by the time were 40 we'll marry each other" find someone in the same predicament as you and say if you dont have a best man by the time you propose you'll be each other's best men.

I know what you mean. I'm not going to have a maid of honor let alone bridesmaids xD

When I got married, I had my friend since birth as my maid of honor, my friend since 7th grade as a bridesmaid, and my sister-in-law as a bridesmaid. Thankfully, BJ also only had three groomsmen because I seriously would not have known who to pick as a fourth bridesmaid if I had to. Seriously, like... maybe my maid of honor's little sisters or something.
