God, Miss America, and evolution

After I posted my last entry, in which I discussed a story about a lot of people pissed off that NBC edited out "under god" in the televised Pledge of Allegiance, I discovered that NBC also pissed off a US Senator. And the Senator sent an angry letter to NBC, demanding a "full written account of its decision-making process in this matter, including an explanation of why these specific words were omitted, and what actions NBC intends to take to prevent such inappropriate edits from occurring in the future. "
He also says that eliminating those words "strips the message of its meaning." Apparently the Pledge had no meaning for 60 years before two words were added to it.
The Miss America pageant suddenly became almost a little bit interesting! Though only in a depressing way. The 51 contestants were asked whether they thought evolution should be taught in public schools. Guess how many answered with the slightest bit of rationality? Five. Three were outright opposed, and the rest said evolution could be taught only if Intelligent Design or "both sides" was also taught.
Somewhat good news: the woman who won was one of the few who answered unequivocally in favor of evolution. I am surprised there have not been some ID nutjob organizations throwing a bit, but they may believe that bikini-laden pageants are evil in the first place (and they'd prefer to look at gay porn anyway).
