Weird Music Middle Ground

Rate this Entry
I was scrolling through Facebook and there was an article on an artist whose music I'd never heard. I'm noticing this is becoming a frequent trend. There are Facebook articles and Cracked articles and 9gag posts and the whole bit about artists I've never heard of

So I tried tonight to listen to one of them and also a popular Katy Perry song that I hadn't heard because I haven't listened to radio music in about 2 and a half to 3 years now and she's had some hits since then. And I dunno, it just made me sad how out of touch I am with it now. Music has always had an influence in my life and hearing certain songs can bring me back to certain moments growing up and the good or bad things that happened. And now I don't know what the popular music is or who the new artists are

So you'd think the solution would be to just start listening to the radio, but honestly I have no interest in doing that anymore. Like I just don't care beyond feeling out of touch. I don't care about the new music or the new pop stars or new artists, and the music I have heard that I missed over the past 2 years I am not impressed by for the most part, I just care about not feeling out of touch

So I'm stuck in some weird middle ground where I just don't care about the new, fresh music, but I also don't like not caring about the new, fresh music. Am I weird? Anyone else been through this?

I just like listening to barbershop quartets and choirs at the moment, so I'm not sure I'll ever be able to feel in touch with the hip new music out now. It's never particularly bothered me, though it does feel weird to not recognize names of bands that pop up on occasion.

I can't imagine my life without pop music. I love it

I think you feel disconnected with what is popular now, but not with music in general. That eventually happens to everyone at some point (at least from my observations.) That's nothing to feel bad over.

So instead of just listening to the top 40 on the radio, maybe you should try going on a musical journey. That's what I do. I'll go to someplace like Slacker, Spotify, YouTube, etc. and start off with bands and songs I know that I like. Then I'll try some of their suggestions. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're not, but I have picked up some new groups that I really like this way.
