Grisaia no Kajitsu First Impressions

So I've started reading the allegedly "best visual novel currently available on Steam", Grisaia no Kajitsu, also known as The Fruit of Grisaia or Le Fruit de la Grisaia.

Well it's a galge set in a highschool setting, but even just an hour in it has already managed to set itself apart. Starting with the protagonist, Yuuji Kazami. The guy's a total badass. Unlike more conventional galge protagonists, he's just on top of things, and I'm already liking the humor in his interactions with the girls.

As for the girls themselves, a few of them seem to fit anime clichés to a T. However Grisaia is self-aware and a bit satirical in this regard and even has Yuuji call them out on it, so I'm rather confident they won't be one-dimensional or anything.

It's hard to complain about her being a generic tsundere when she's literally reading a guidebook on how to be a tsundere.

I'm quite looking forward to what awaits me. There is an anime adaptation but I haven't seen it as it was supposedly rather rushed, and seriously, what do you expect when an anime tries compressing 50+ hours of content into 13 episodes with all of the individual heroine routes taking 2 episodes each...

The common route is apparently one of the longest in visual novel history, so I might write a reflection on that when I'm done with it.
