I somehow forgot to post this way back when it was first made.

Some time ago, the Visual Novels Subreddit had an extensive poll to rate visual novels of many different genres by their newbie-friendliness, the end result of which is this huge image. They're sorted by newbie-friendliness from left to right, and you can also see ratings for overall/visuals/music/story to make your choice easier, plus there are icons to indicate 18+ games, 18+ games with a patch/alternate version, and the structure of the novels. It's pretty well-made honestly, and if you're looking for something in particular this may be useful for you.

I find it slightly hilarious that Little Busters ended up being the most recommended Comedy visual novel. I mean sure it has great comedy, but, uh, keep a box of tissues nearby I guess?

But overall I guess this chart is pretty accurate.
