Good/Bad news

Rate this Entry
Well the good news is that I am apparently awesome at my job!!!! (As said my managers, and supervisor...and the customers are apparently fond of me)

The bad news is, I am SO awesome at my job, that now I need to go in at 5:30, because I am the only one who does the job properly.

Congrats at being awesome, though if your unhappy about the lack of other professional help in your shop you should speak to your manager, its not fair on you to have to take all the responsibility, I mean what if something were to happen to you or what if you found another job, you need to get them to train the other members of your team so your not stuck getting up at ridiculous times in the morning, especially when you walk to work and don't get home till late.

Hope everything turns out well for you, I personally hate early morning but starting at 5:30 is just beyond a joke.

    you normaly begin at 8?

Hmmm, you're Canadian and your employers want you starting at 5:30 am? I may be way off base here, but you don't work at Tim Horton's do you?

But yeah, 5:30 is balls, but I understand how you feel to some extent. While my wife doesn't have to get up at 5:30, she has been told by her boss on a few occasions that she's one of the few employees she trusts there. Which is kind of frightening when you consider she works at a daycare now that I think about it. But because of that she usually ends up closing up a little more often than the other workers, and sometimes staying a bit late as well. They have to have a certain ratio of kids to adults, so if someone gets to go home early, it usually isn't her, and if parents are later than usual getting their kids she's stuck until they pick them up, even if it's an hour after she's supposed to get off.

Hopefully some other people start to step up, or maybe some new hires will help ease things on you. I'd hate to think how hard this would be since you get home so late sometimes. You were stressed enough before, and I'd hate to see your school work suffer, or worse, have you burn out (been there. Not fun).

It sounds like bragging, but I've been in the same situation. In several jobs I've been given extra responsibility for doing my job well.

It's rewarding to be recognized, but usually all it gets you is extra work load with out extra pay. That part can be frustrating.

sharky is totally right about that last part. "Good job Ashton! You do such a good job we're going to give you MORE JOB."

I can't think of any other places in Canada that open at 5:30 am. Folks need their double doubles and some such.

what kind of place is Tim Hortons?
what kind of work do you do, if i may ask?

I serve coffee to cafeine addicts, basically.

And by caffeine addicts she means 103% of the Canadian population. Tim's is basically a coffee/donut shop. I know they serve more than just coffee and donuts now, but going there for anything else feels a bit like going to A&W for some Coke if you ask me.

    i am viewing eoff blags
    you are working hard
this is not good. i am serious. do not ever be #1 - only strive to be #2, maybe #3 (depending on how far apart #1 is from #2/3)

the reason is that as #1 employee you CANNOT slack and become #2 ever. it is a bigger crime to dip from #1 to #2 than to be #2 and move to #3. Also #1s are not easily replaced (as you are getting to understand quickly)

I also read the subsequent post where you are like a supervisor (do you mean shift super or actual manager?) - at least they are giving you a raise and time off. and other jobs. yay.

I hope it works out for you in the end. don't stretch yourself out too thin D:

(this last one has a double entendre that isn't sexual. woohoo)
