Whether it’s once a week or once a year, every person gets sick. It’s one of life’s most common trials. But are you aware that this is one specific trial women suffer less often than males? A recent study by Dr. Maya Saleh of the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Center shows, “women have a stronger immune system than males. In fact, the production of estrogen by females might have an excellent effect on the innate inflammatory response against bacterial pathogens.” Researchers do not know the definitive cause of this, though they guess the “female innate immune system might have advanced to better defend women's reproductive role.”

Women may protest that they still become ill on occasion-well yes, there’s no way to entirely erase your risk of illness. But there are a few things you can do to help your chances.

Eat your tomatoes

Lots of people tout the power of vitamin C in preventing or treating colds. But did you ever hear that incorporating tomatoes as a normal part of your diet can help prevent disease? A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that “while subjects were on a tomato [rich] diet, their infection-fighting white blood cells sustained 38 percent less damage from free radicals - atoms in the body that damage and destabilize cells - than when they ate no tomato goods.” Feed your white blood cells today.

You need to eat oats

According to David Grotto, R.D., director of nutrition education at the Block Center for Integrative Cancer Care in Evanston, Illinois, oats ought to be an essential part of your diet. This is because fiber-rich foods-such as oats-contain beta-glucans. These compounds are necessary for white blood cell activation. White blood cells are your body’s soldiers who defend you against infections. Soldiers need to be federal reserve.
