Back in 2003, Square Enix rereleased the first entry in the Mana series. Originally released in 1991 as Seiken Densetsu in Japan, as it made its way to the West, it was published as Final Fantasy Adventure to boost sales. The 2003 remake, called Sword of Mana, made many alterations to the original. Not only was the art style completely revamped to look more similar to Legend of Mana, but the battle system was also very different, and many characters were given vastly different personalities and roles in the story. The biggest addition was probably the option to play as a female character, whose story was completely different than that of the male hero's. While not a bad game at all, the changes made did not sit well with a lot of fans, who were hoping for a more faithful remake of their beloved Gameboy game.

Their prayers were heard when Square Enix recently announced that the game will be ...

On this day six years ago, magic happened – Japan saw the release of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep on the PSP, and it has remained a much beloved entry into the franchise since. It's rare that an entry in a series delivers on all the hype, and yet it happened here. Ever since that harrowing secret ending oh Kingdom Hearts II, fans have been speculating and counting the days until this prequel to the saga revealed all. Here's six awesome things about Kingdom Hearts BbS that made fans scream with glee once they finally got to play it.

    #6 Dearly Beloved

Starting with something simple yet iconic for the series as a whole, the Birth by Sleep rendition of Dearly Beloved is not only the longest and most complex one yet, it is also considered by many to be the version that expresses the tone of the series the best. Speaking of music...

    #5. This boss theme

Yoko Shimomura once again proves she's the queen of blending classical music with electronica. The upbeat techno backgroud may seem a bit strange ...

The tenth anniversary of Final Fantasy XV's announcement is approaching and, appropriately enough, it looks like this is the year the game will FINALLY see a release!

According to director Hajime Tabata as he told Famitsu, the game is entering the debug phase, and the "real FFXV" will be showcased in March during the release date announcement event. Tabata is confident that "this is the year [they'll] release Final Fantasy XV."

Are you excited to see FFXV finally come out this year? What month do you think the game will be released? Let us know in the comments! ...

Living in Central Europe has its share of drawbacks. To an avid JRPG fan such as myself, the biggest one was growing up in a place where the only console available was a bootleg version of the NES called a "Pegazus". Needless to say, I was introduced to the genre fairly late, with Final Fantasy being my gateway drug. While digging through information about this newly discovered series, I came across Dragon Quest, to which FF reportedly owed a lot. The premise did not seem appealing enough at the time, however, so I just gave the series a pass and only decided to try it when DQ VIII came out on the PS2. Though I sucked at it, and hard, I still enjoyed it, but not enough to really try and dig into this series. Well, this changed recently, as I noticed the original six DQ games are available on iOS. I promptly downloaded it and beat it in two days. Here's what I thought about the experience.

While no official announcement has been made on the part of Square Enix, according to gamerant and numerous other sources, PEGI has rated the game for a PC release. No specific date has been given yet, and we don't even know which version of FFVI this will be, but it's safe to assume that the game will be released in a similar fashion to FFV, which was a port of the iOS/Android version.

The mobile version of Final Fantasy VI featured enhanced graphics, including spritework by series veteran Kazuko Shibuya who was responsible for the sprites in the original six games. On top of that, the game featured the revamped script from the GBA version, as well as the additional espers and dungeons from that port. Whether the Steam version will feature the same interface featured in the mobile version which was specifically ...

The Final Fantasy fanbase is large, so it's no wonder that we are a hard to please bunch. But whether we agree on which games are terrible and which are the best thing since sliced bread, there's one thing most of us can agree on: the music is always amazing. Final Fantasy soundtracks are some of the most iconic in video gaming, inspiring various fan remixes and official arrangements.

Final Symphony is one such official album, but it is a pretty unique one. Unlike most arrangements like Celtic Moon or the Distant Worlds concert tour, which consist of simple orchestrations of the most beloved tracks, this project takes a different approach. First premiering at the Historische Stadthalle in Wuppertal in 2013, Final Symphony takes us on a musical journey through the worlds of Final Fantasy VI, VII and X, arranged in an artistic manner. Instead of single tracks from the games, the soundtracks are given new life by the outstanding arrangers, becoming full musical pieces where the original themes blend together to create something ...

I know this topic has been done to death over the last couple of years, but since I have quite recently just beat FFXIII for the first time, I was thinking it might be appropriate to start this topic again. Keep in mind I've only started XIII-2 now, and have yet to play LR, and I do believe those games will be better, but just bear with me for a while and try not to spoil too much

So let me just preface this by saying I don't hate this game. I was excited to see FFXIII finally come out on Steam so that I could finally experience it, and despite a lot of people saying bad things about it, it was the next main entry in the series, and as the massive FF nerd that I am, I had been itching to play it for a while. Spoilers: I didn't like it, though mostly because it was a wasted opportunity in many respects, and it simply felt like a chore to me. While I'm at it, I'd like to address the quite toxic stance many people who liked this game have had towards those that didn't - just because I don't enjoy it or see it as a bad game does not mean I do not like fun or that I played the game just to hate ...

The beloved wacky installment in the SNES trilogy is making its way to PCs in less than two weeks via Steam! Freshly announced by Square Enix, the Steam version of FFV is a port of the iOS version released earlier, meaning it will have all the extra features added in the GBA release (more jobs, an extra dungeon), as well as enhanced graphics, with sprites redrawn by Kazuko Shibuya - series veteran responsible for creating character sprites throughout the whole series.

On top of that, the game is supposed to have very low system requirements, which means it will be accessible to more players. Furthermore, developers promise FFV will be optimized for peak PC performance.

Today during Disney's D23 convention producer Shinji Hashimoto announced that San Fransokyo, the setting of the Academy Award-winning Disney film Big Hero 6, along with its loveable cast, will be making an appearance in Kingdom Hearts III.

The story is set to follow the events of the movie instead of recapping them with Sora & co. integrated into it (like in KHII), so expect some interesting twists to the world of Big Hero 6! As illustrated in the concept art, Sora will most likely end up battling a Heartless version of Baymax, while riding on the back of the robot.

Conductor Arnie Roth’s recent announcement caused quite a stir in our community. His “announcement” of a Final Fantasy XII remake made fans of the game anxious for all the Gamescom events, hopeful for any official word on the matter from SE. Sadly, Gamescom came and went, and no news surfaced. Roth retracted his initial statement, though his explanation seemed to raise more questions than answers, as the only thing he corrected was his improper use of the word ‘remake’. Fans speculate that means an HD remaster is on the way, or whether our dear Arnie simply means FFXII’s soundtrack will get more new arrangements for a new concert.

Whatever the case, fans of the series have become more eager to play an HD remaster of Final Fantasy XII than ever. And for good reason! Here are twelve magical reasons why we need Final Fantasy XII HD.

    12. We can’t play it on any of the current-gen consoles.

All of the FFs preceding it have had at least one rerelease. Be it through a simple PSN port, an HD remaster or an all-out remake, the entire series up until this point is playable on current systems. The only way to play FFXII now, aside from the dubious practice of emulation, is through ...

During yesterday's Square Enix E3 conference it was announced that Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ (chi) is making its way to iOS, and it is coming out in English!

Originally a Japan-only browser game, Kingdom Hearts χ takes place during the Keyblade war and ties heavily into Kingdom Hearts III. In the game you create your own Keyblade-wielding avatar and collect a substance called Lux from Heartless. Reportedly, events and quests are added on a weekly basis, so there's always something exciting to look forward to!

Additionally, the iOS version includes an enhanced story with a new character tying the whole narrative into the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III! Maleficent is also rumored to make a return, and as usual, she's up to no good!

No official word on the official release date in the West, but the stated year of release in Japan is 2015. It's safe to expect the English version will follow soon ...

5 Concerns About the Final Fantasy VII Remake Announcement

It finally happened. Square Enix have dropped us the bombshell of the decade – Final Fantasy VII is being remade for the PS4 with a sleek graphical makeover. Fans have been shouting, wailing, begging SE to do it for years and their prayers have finally been answered. Now don’t get us wrong – we're just as excited to finally get confirmation on this as the next guy, but ever since the announcement was made and we got a glimpse of what the game is intended to look, we’ve had certain… concerns. Of course, considering how large the FF fanbase is, and how beloved a game FFVII is, it goes without saying that not everyone will be satisfied with the final outcome. Here are some things we feel may happen in this remake that will make most fans angry.

    5. The game will play differently

The gaming industry has undergone substantial changes over the years. What was acceptable by the gaming public at large in 1997 when FFVII originally came out may not be as hotly anticipated nowadays. Turn-based combat is one ...
