Kingdom Hearts is a game that needs no introduction. It seems even the most jaded of fans still hold very much respect for this little gem that has, against all odds, remained as one of the PS2’s most beloved classics. This was a time when SE was still doing tons of risky, experimental stuff rather than trying to capitalize on the thing that was big at the time. I think it should come as no surprise that I really miss those times.

Though Kingdom Hearts may be the last of its kind - that being a quirky, experimental title - it’s still a shining example of a simple joy of creating new and exciting things that used to be SE’s M.O. I’d argue it’s also one of the last bastions of such creative joy within the company, but I guess I’ll be elaborating more on this in later pieces.

But what is it that makes KH so risky and experimental? Why, it’s the unique combination of Disney and Final Fantasy, of course. As if that needs to be stated. Much like the mythical encounter Sakaguchi had with a Disney exec, it’s just one of those things that we treat as a given nowadays, ...

Now that we live in a post-FFXV world, Del Murder and I took the time to look back on some... interesting trends that SE has decided to follow in its game announcements.

We've all joked about "Please be excited" and announcing announcements of announcements, but where did it all start? And where is it going? Will XVI meet the same fate? Have a listen as we discuss what we think about all this - and feel free to join the discussion!

Recently we've been treated to an excellent piece penned by our dear Pumpkin, showing us how a skeptic of FFXV's undeniable greatness can still hope for some good things. Considering I'm pretty much the opposite of a skeptic in that regard - that is, I am a raving maniac ready to ingest every copy of FFXV - I was thinking that thinking of counterpoints to my own point of view which might actually be a healthy way to soothe my proverbial mammaries. Here's five areas in which FFXV might screw up! ...

Today, Final Fantasy XV's official Youtube channel released a video showcasing the voice actors of some of the main characters of the game. After much speculation, the official voices have finally been revealed (with Kari Wahlgren, the voice of Ashe from FFXII returning as Aranea Highwind, though she isn't featured in the video).

Each of the actors soeajs about what makes their characters compelling to work with, and what the overall impression that Final Fantasy XV made on them was. Click on the video below to check them out for yourself!

What are your thoughts on the voice actors and their respective talents? Do you think they fit what we know of the characters so far? (Personally, the reveal that Matthew Mercer was playing the role of Cor Leonis made my inner fangirl squee.)

The recent announcement of Final Fantasy XV's two-month delay was met with a mixed reception. Many people are glad that we will be getting a more polished product, but others have become so fed up with waiting that their hope for the product has started waning again.

Apparently, some have even turned to the competition for comfort!

A while ago Square Enix provided their users with a poll, asking whether they were more interested in Persona 5 or Final Fantasy XV. The reasons were speculated to be either the similar release period (with Persona 5 having a Japanese release planned just two weeks before Final Fantasy XV) or the Persona series' increased prominence in recent years, especially among JRPG enthusiasts who have long been Final Fantasy's core user base, some of whom have begun to felt more and more alienated by the real-time action RPG combat and more of a move to science fiction than fantasy.

    Nevertheless, while the ...

There's a reason the term "sophomore slump" exists. The first entry in a series always brings a certain degree of expectation to the table that a sequel should logically meet and even surpass. Needless to say, doing so is very hard. Although, video games are a unique case. Due to their interactive nature, most sequels are actually capable of being objectively better than their predecessors. Is Bravely Second an example of this or does it fall flat compared to Bravely Default? ...

The lovely folks at Square Enix have just treated us with a brand new trailer for Kingdom Hearts 2.8! In the trailer, we are presented with in-game footage of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance in glorious HD, as well as Birth By Sleep 0.2: A Fragmentary Passage. The new graphics in the latter look particularly good, with Aqua's adventure using the new engine that will be the basis for Kingdom Hearts III.

The last segment of the trailer is devoted to Kingdom Hearts χ: Back Cover, the movie version of the recently released smartphone game that takes place at the very beginning of the Kingdom Hearts timeline. We get to hear a lot of cryptic conversations between new, hooded characters called the Foretellers, as well as some dramatic scenes. The film itself looks gorgeous and I can't wait to see what this is all about!

    But perhaps the most ...

The wait has been long, but the time has finally come! Final Fantasy XII has finally been confirmed for an HD rerelease, and it's the Zodiac Job system version!

The announcement came in the form of a teaser trailer (linked below) that showcases the game's improved HD visuals. The characters and environments are looking better than ever!

According to various sources (neogaf forums), we can expect more than just a simple graphical update. As this version of the game will be based on the Japan-only International Zodiac Job System release, we can expect all of the extra features from that game, including a Job System, turbo mode, and a choice between Japanese and English voices, both of which are getting enhanced for the HD version. The soundtrack is also getting a remaster (is this what Arnie Roth spoiled us on?), and you will be able to switch between the original and rearranged soundtrack, just ...

With all the recent buzz around FFXV, it's easy to get lost among all the new info we keep getting. Here's one bit that stands out: Tabata has confirmed that there will be DLC, and that it will be both free and paid. Apparently, with a game of this caliber and development costs, DLC will be necessary to earn back what was spent on the game.

But we already knew that DLC was coming. Not only is it an inevitability in today's gaming climate, but we have already heard the airship or moogles might be coming as DLC. This time around, while we still don't get any specific details on the content of the DLC, we get to know that Tabata is considering additional story scenarios.

How do you feel about new story missions as DLC? Do you think it should be paid or free? Do you feel like it's a good thing, or is it fake longevity and they should just move on to XVI? Let us know! ...

It's no secret that there has been significant backlash over the fact that there are no female characters within the party of Final Fantasy XV. That statement may not be completely true. As reported by Nova Crystallis, Luna is confirmed to make a guest appearance in the main party.

Tabata reassures us that we will be able to see Luna in action. So far her and one other character - that being Cor Leonis - have been confirmed as guest characters. The dircetor mentioned, however, that there is a difference in how these characters will feature in the party. Cor will be joining Noctis temporarily in a fight, while with Luna, it'll be the other way around - Noctis & co. will be assisting her in a battle that is already underway. No word on other guest party members, but perhaps we can expect more in the finished game? Aranea, anyone?

What do you think? Isn't it cool that we'll ...
