    Square-Enix has just released what the Lodestone is calling the opening movie for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Check out the official prologue for ARR!

    This video actually starts with the awesome finale cutscene of FFXIV 1.0, with Eorzea under attack and the secret of Dalamud revealed. After that scene (around the 5:45 mark), the movie cuts to the reborn realm where our heroes were transported, with their chocobo mounts conveniently waiting for them.

    The movie doesn’t add much to previous trailers, but it sure makes me excited to start exploring the new Eorzea right along with them. ...

    There have been many speculations over the addition of a multiplayer option for the new "Tomb Raider" reboot. As of yesterday, it has been confirmed.

    The confirmation was given by Crystal Dynamics Global Brand Director, Karl Stewart through Twitter.

    No details have been given yet, but it has been said that all will be revealed in the next issue of "Official Xbox Magazine". The retail listing for "Tomb Raider" on the GAME website has stated that the game will feature a "variety of multiplayer modes."

    Fans are wondering what these multiplayer options will entail; as it will be the first game in the series to feature them. Some fans are concerned that any multiplayer features may take away from the quality and the intended direction of the game, but many are very excited to learn more about them.

    Whatever Crystal Dynamics have designed for this game, it's sure to get people talking and give the franchise a completely new feel.

    Square Enix has released a gameplay trailer for their new upcoming title "Gyrozetter". Gyrozetter is a game that is anime meets transformers, that will be released on the 3DS. It's hard to make out exactly how the game will play from this trailer, but there appears to be a world-traversal mode where you control a human boy. There is also an exploration mode where you play as the mech being able to transform into a hot rod whenever you'd like. ...

    Square Enix made this arcade game about transforming cars that battle called Gyrozetter. It's pretty awesome. Then they turned it into an anime - Chō Soku Henkei Gyrozetter - to really pump up the popularity. Seems like the next step in Square Enix's plan for world domination is a collection of cards found inside Happy Meals sold in Japan from January 11.

    They look a little something like this.

    To go with the anime, arcade game, and now collectable cards, Square Enix are also releasing a 3DS Gyrozetter RPG, which is set in the same universe as the arcade game, only with far more RPG goodness. No news on whether or not this Transformers-esque game will reach Western shores but suffice to say that Japanese kids will probably be loving it.

    You can see the trailer for Super Speed Transforming Gyrozetter, the upcoming 3DS game below.

    Amid rumors that layoffs had occurred at Square-Enix’s Los Angeles office and how they might impact current MMO games, SE’s Senior Director of Public Relations, Riley Brennan, confirmed yesterday that layoffs did occur, but that customers will not see any negative impact. Brennan emphasized that the decision to lay off some unknown number of employees “will not have any impact on the operations of MMO titles,” and that the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will not be affected. It’s currently unknown what specific departments lost employees, but Brennan’s assurances seemed to apply only to the MMO departments.

    The layoffs seem to corroborate last week’s report about the disastrous original launch of Final Fantasy XIV and its continued financial impact on Square-Enix. Hopefully the upcoming relaunch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will allow the company to bounce back so that this trend does not continue.

    A new Tomb Raider trailer has been released by Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix as an early Christmas present to all the fans who are eagerly awaiting this addition to the series.

    It’s all looking very dark and eerily tense for Lara in this cinematic trailer which shows different scenes from throughout the game combined with gameplay clips.

    The opening of the trailer shows Lara struggling to find her footing on a sky-scraping communications tower. We watch as it starts crumbling beneath her, and it only gives us the sense that this game is going to have these scary and unknowing undertones from beginning to end.

    It would be no surprise to see this game become a bestseller next year, and to top the charts and ratings as from what has already been released; it is looking like a terrifying adventure awaits Lara.

    With just over three months until the game is released, fans are starting to get ...

    Yet another game on sale for the holiday period! The rhythm game for iOS (and Android this time) and its DLCs are going on sale until January 31st, so you've got plenty of time to get into it. Though the original release strategy for Demons' Score seemed a little unfavourable to Westerners, these sales mean you can grab it all at an affordable price.

    The game itself has dropped from $6.99 to a staggering $0.99 and the following DLCs - which expand the content through added titular Demons - have been slashed too:

    • Berial, Erigos, Berith and Lilith DLCs $2.99 -> $0.99
    • Beezlebub and Astaroth DLCs $3.99 -> $1.99
    • Azazel and Dantalion DLCs $4.99 -> $2.99
    • Satan DLC $9.99 -> $3.99

    Some big savings up for grabs there, particularly when you look at the drop in price for the main game and the Satan DLC. All up it'll cost you can get Demons' Score for under $20, making it much more affordable.

    If you need more incentive, check out the video below and enjoy the fast paced action and really cheesy dialogue! ...

    Square Enix loves their countdowns. Recently a new one popped up. Full of space and tweets.

    Two planets floating in space with a sun looking down on us, we are presented with a countdown. Earlier in the day the only word on the screen was "STAR". Now to join it is "DIVIDE." In the small text below the countdown it reads "Universal Accel Cosmic Drive". Tweets are then appearing when people mention anything about the site. So what is this all about?

    Most fans are jumping straight to the conclusion of a new Star Ocean game. Star Ocean was a popular series that many final fantasy fans branched out to, to fill their minds with space and adventure. It was definitely one of the influential game series that caused many fans to truly sink into the RPG fandom.

    Most fans did jump to this conclusion that the countdown would be from their beloved series but over at Siliconera, they discovered actual evidence of the sort. They found something called "Star Galaxy" has been trademarked by Square Enix. Could ...

    The Old Dogs and Up and Comers

    Hiromichi Tanaka - Hiromichi Tanaka left college with Sakaguchi so they could join Square and make video games. Tanaka is best known for being a key designer for the first three Final Fantasy games being one of the founders of the Job Class system. He later moved onto work on the Seiken Densetsu (Mana) series and Chrono franchises before being brought back to work as the producer for FFXI, which he considers to be an evolution of FFIII. Later on he helmed the remake of FFIII for the DS and was tasked developing FFXIV. Due to the commercial failure of FFXIV, Tanaka stepped down from the development team and later retired from Square-Enix. He remains a controversial figure for the FF MMO community but is probably most well-known and beloved by the Mana and Chrono fans.

    Kazushige Nojima - Nojima joined Square sometime in the mid-90s making his debut as the director of the cult Super Famicom game Bahamut Lagoon. His first and most notable intro to the series was working with Kitase in adapting the original story by Nomura and Sakaguchi for FFVII. ...

    So I was asked to give a helpful guideline of the movers and shakers of our beloved FF series so people will have a more educated idea of who to vote fir in the 25th Anniversary Ciddies.

    Part One: The Big Guns

    Hironobu Sakaguchi - Creator of Final Fantasy, Sakaguchi was the director, designer, and producer of the first five Final Fantasy games. He stepped down from this position during FFVI's development but still worked on as a producer and later executive producer for the rest of the series until he left Square in 2002. Sakaguchi was also one of the Big 3 of the creation of Chrono Trigger, he promoted the use of Mode 7 and the jump to Sony's CD based system to better utilize technology for the series. He wrote the original story with Tetsuya Nomura for FFVII, came up with the concept for Parasite Eve, and was the Executive Producer for most of Square's non-FF titles released in the PS1 era. His creation and push for technology made Square into a powerhouse but his foray into the movie industry nearly bankrupt the company with the commercial failure of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. He currently runs his own game development company ...

    Square Enix hosted a live conference showcasing the power of its Luminous Engine, the tool behind the absolutely gorgeous Agni's Philosophy tech demo. While there are rumours that Agni's Philosophy might actually be a game, the engine itself is already proving to be super impressive. The video below shows parts of the tech demo being edited on the fly. I can't even comprehend how detailed all of this is. It's like playing with the Sims Creator except on steroids. Magical.

    We'll be keeping our eyes on Agni's Philosophy and the Luminous Engine, because they're just too beautiful to look away!
