In 2012, Dark Horse comics released The Sky which was a limited-edition box set of books collection Amano's illustrations for 25 years of Final Fantasy games. Such a collectable piece of work surely sold out very quickly after it was made available.

On July 19, a special "Slipcase Edition" of the collection will be released in a series of three hardcover volumes. For any avid Final Fantasy fan, these will be an absolute must for a collection.

Amano is known for his very distinct, and at times, unusual artistic style which differs from the usual Japanese style of big eyes and cartoonistic anime style.

Here are just some of the pictures which will be included.

Do you remember about a month ago we showed this awesome artwork for the awkwardly named Final Fantasy Tribute ~Thanks~ album? Good! Because things are even more exciting now that the album has been released. For something comprised entirely of remixes of our favourite Final Fantasy tracks, it manages to balance the nostalgia value with the fresh new arrangements without stumbling over and making a mess of things. It's actually quite good, from what I've been able to listen to. A sample can be found at the bottom of the article, for the impatient among you.

I've only been able to find a sampling of the tracks, although it's a sample of apparently every single song on the album so it's not bad for a tester. It's a surprising success, bringing together a wide range of Japanese artists with unique re-imaginings on both new and old FF tunes all in the name of celebrating the series.

For now the album is only ...

Do you remember the charm of the 2D sprite based Final Fantasy games? Well Kasuko Shibuya, an artist on the original Famicom games, has whipped up a mock cover for the Final Fantasy Tribute ~Thanks~ album. Will it be the final product? Who knows, I'm just enjoying the sight of our 2D heroes and villains!

Square Enix's celebrations for Final Fantasy's 25th Anniversary have been quite extensive. From collectible merchandise, to new Final Fantasy novels, new (and very collectible) Ultimania guides, as well as new game announcements, Square Enix has really been going all out in this milestone of a year.

While Square Enix is searching for their No. 1 Fan, an event for the FF fanatics has already taken place. The FINAL FANTASY Experience was held in Seattle, WA on August 31 and and brought people together with a shared love of the series. For those of us who couldn't make it, the guys at iam8bit compiled a short video (below) giving us a glimpse of what the event was like.

There seems no end to the little packs that Square Enix is throwing together to celebrate Final Fantasy's 25th Anniversary. Now, just a couple months out from the official date, Square Enix has announced a series of vinyl records to celebrate the series' music.

Only 30 tracks will be featured across the 5 record compilation, so we're going to be getting a Best Of collection and not the entire discography. Don't panic though; Nobuo Uematsu is involved, so you just know it's going to be great.

The vinyls are set to be release on November 11 and will cost around US$150, so it's certainly one for the true collectors. If you're a dedicated fan of the Final Fantasy series and collector of memorabilia, then this Anniversary year is shaping up to be a goldmine, albeit an expensive one!

In celebration of the Final Fantasy series' 25th anniversary, Square Enix has planned to release a range of products for fans. First looks show a wide range of coffee tumblers with a few different designs, as well as a pack of cards featuring characters from the thirteen main entries in the series!

The official logo of Square Enix's 25th Anniversary celebrations. Upcoming games will feature this logo, including Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.

The original Final Fantasy was supposed to be the swan song of Square Soft Inc., but instead catapulted the company to the top of the JRPG industry. Now, 25 years later, Square Enix are continuing to innovate and challenge the conventions of the industry.

Final Fantasy was released in Japan on December 18, 1987, and has since gone through multiple ports and rereleases. It is obvious from the longevity of the series that Final Fantasy fans are highly devoted to the games, and are always eager for a chance to show off their support; whether through merchandise or just debating which game is the best!

Release for these products is scheduled for Spring of 2012 (that's northern hemisphere seasons), with an expected retail price for the deck of cards of ¥1,200, which is around $15.00/£9.50/€11.00. Coffee tumblers are set at ¥1,900 or $24.00/£15.00/€18.00.

While Square Enix is starting the 25th Anniversary celebrations, some fans are already showing support in their own way. Youtube user PixelEdged has created a tribute to the single player entries in a two part video series.

You can watch the first part below. Coffee tumblers and playing cards can also be seen below.
