Most fans consider Final Fantasy VI to be one of the finest games in the series, if not the finest. But even those who don't have to admit that there is something special about the opening scene. When you see the snow falling and the magitek armor making their slow march across the field, you know you're in for a real treat.
Terra's Theme is iconic. Perhaps it's because of that unforgettable opening scene in FFVI, or perhaps it's because it's pervasive throughout the rest of the game, or perhaps it's a little of both. But either way, Terra's Theme has not only become the quintessential theme of Final Fantasy VI, but it's transcended its source material.
Oh, sure, the song appears in Dissidia and Theatrhythm - that much isn't surprising. But did you know that Terra's Theme appears in Final Fantasy XIII? Biggs and Wedge are traveling musicians in Yusnaan, who, during the night, play their own rendition of the famous tune.
And did you hear about how it's tied to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn? The first video showing the magitek armor

Final Fantasy has a long and storied history, and if you're on this site, then chances are you know a lot of this history already. But do you know everything? Here are a handful of lesser known facts from Square's perennially popular series:

Dogs are usually considered "Man's Best Friend". However, that's not always the case. As the species have evolved over these thousands of years, so has the relationship between canines and humans. The Final Fantasy series is no stranger
to this concept.
Cynophobia is the psychological fear of dogs and it is brought on by either being victim to, or witnessing a bad experience with a canine early in life. Sometimes cynophobia may be taught, through a cynophobic parent or culture. Evolutionary theorists, though, claim that the fear of dogs may be hard wired into our systems, as early man needed fear to survive against large predators.
One of these large predators may have been the Grey Wolf, for which is theorized to be the ancestor to all domestic dogs this day. Wolves have been a popular enemy in the Final Fantasy series, dating to the original. Not only did you face common Wolves, but also supernatural versions like the Warg Wolves, Werewolves and Winter Wolves. Hyenadons, based on a prehistoric canine and Hell Hounds are two large canine foes encountered on the heroes' journey.
Final Fantasy XII offered a larger variety of wolf/hyena enemies

So about 20 years ago today, FFVI was released in Japan on the Super Famicom. It had the longest development of any FF before it clocking close to a seventeen month difference between it's release and it's predecessors release in 1992. It features the largest playable cast of any numbered FF with a party of 14 distinct characters, only FFTactics has it beat, and Type-0 is tied with it. The game dropped the heavier use of swords and sorcery and instead placed a heavier emphasis on steampunk and technology than any previous FF. Each character sprite averaged 45 different sprite animations and unlike previous FFs, the characters used the same field sprite as they did for battle, allowing VI to feature a more seamless visual transition from story, to exploration, to battles.
The game experimented with different game play features to enhance the players experience including more interactive battle commands like Blitz and Slot, the introduction of puzzle style mini-games in dungeons, a rudimentary RTS mini-game, optional party members to recruit, special playable cinematic events, multi-party dungeons, and even a more open ended second act of the game that allowed the player to freely explore and recruit

Yup that's right, another teaser site. Square Enix loves their teasers! So what are they teasing this time? Well we're not sure. From their RSS feed that was sent out to well anyone who has them RSS'd they had the headline of " – ( ・ω・)=つ≡つ 2013.1.17 ⊂≡⊂=(・ω・ )."

Throughout its 25 year history the Final Fantasy series has presented us with memorable and emotion provoking pieces of music that transcend the medium from simple 8-bit melodies to awe-inspiring orchestral performances.
Fans of the series have their own opinions on which game is the best of the series but one thing that always seems to reach a unanimous verdict that the soundtracks are always stellar.
There have been quite a few times in the Final Fantasy series where you just stared at the screen and thought “what the heck did I just play”. Using magic doesn’t phase you. Strange creatures don’t phase you. These moments though? These make you just audibly say, “What the smurf?”
5 Final Fantasy VIII’s Concert
In VIII, Selphie and Irvine try to set up a date for Squall and Rinoa as well as celebrating his new command position. You get the lovely task of selecting instruments for the remaining cast to play on this date. It’s all a variation of Eyes on Me but each instrument has a bit of a different tune. You can have a lovely celtic sounding composition, or possibly a Jazz one. Or, like many players, you'll end up with a sound that causes weaker willed people’s ears to bleed.
Oh and a very awkward laugh to be had about it? A porn magazine is involved. Being the nice guy he is, Irvine leaves Squall a magazine to help him get Riona and Squall “in the mood.” Yeah. YEAH.

Now for some FF fandom news! The FF fans are amazing sometimes and we get evidence of that now and again. Most times it's physical things but sometimes, sometimes it's a little different.
I don't know if you've tried it yet, like the other 30 million registered users of the game, but Minecraft is awesome! A Minecraft builder by the name of Felix Trapper has painstakingly recreated various scenes from Final Fantasy VI. If you get slapped with nostalgia, I don't blame you. I did too. Take a gander!
Let's start our trip off with the snow capped city of Narshe! It's where you first start out and it's where we'll first start out!
Too cold for you? Well lets go get sand on our boots over at the Figaro castle!
I know you might have some random battle flash backs, they have rehab for that now, but please check out Fanatic's Tower as well.
I don't know if you can actually steal people's clothes in this one but they made South Figaro too!
