It's always bothered me that that word is used for two different things. It just makes way for stupid jokes, confusion, etc. Why. WHY. But still, calling the foot things thongs is better than calling them jandals.

Jerks in this country think that sandals are called thongs.

I think the effects of the two are polar opposites.
