It's an interesting field. It starts out simple, as you learn basics, then gets more complicated, as you learn technical details, then more simple again as you understand applications. Then it gets more complicated again as you move to the doctorate level stuff and actually designing chips and things.

I met her on Smashboards. Some of the Robin fans formed a tight knit little group after his reveal trailer, and I met her there.

I was thinking the new one. I've heard good things about it.

And, since you need to upgrade your GPU, you've given me an excuse to show off this magnificent piece of engineering:

I've sold books for a living the past seven years (tomorrow is my last day with Barnes & Noble). Just graduated with my Associate's Degree in Electronics Engineering, and I'm due to begin work with Texas Instruments on the 31st. I'll be repairing and maintaining the robots they use to make microchips.

I live in Texas. It may give you the "country conservative" stereotype (and I can't deny that I AM a fairly die-hard conservative on a lot of issues) but most of the large cities have plenty of Bernie fans (including most of my coworkers at the bookstore). I think almost everyone I've encountered over here is united in despising Hillary, though.

My girlfriend (whom you might have met briefly in the Pokemon tournament Fynn set up, she's Minato Arisato on here, though she doesn't post much) lives in LA, though we're hoping to be able to move her over here in about a year.

My favorite games are RPGs. In order: Chrono Trigger, Golden Sun (I count the first two games as a single game), and Rune Factory 3 are my top titles. I'm interested in streaming a number of games, including: Shadows of Mordor, Mark of the Ninja, Doom, the Mass Effect trilogy, Kingdom Hearts 3 (once it finally comes out), Pokemon Sun/Moon (I hope my 3DS capture card arrives before release day), and others, including possibly some older games like Master of Orion 2, if there is enough interest.

I'm building myself a new, top-end PC to handle streaming and video editing as my reward to myself for pushing through this semester of hell (4 classes and a full time job). I am going to have a very fixed schedule which includes half a week off every week (12 hour shifts, 3 days one week, 4 the next). So I'm hoping I can build a regular streaming and recording schedule. Though I work the night shift, so most of my content will be in the evening and early morning.

There are plenty of other games I'd love to LP, but I'm not sure how many others may gather people's interest. Or how much my play style may appeal to them. XCOM has the advantage of using my friends as characters, so it immediately draws the audience in somewhat. And I tend to play a lot of games just naturally as a completionist, so it's difficult for me to find the right pacing to keep the audience engaged when there's plenty of farming and repetition. I really need to work on my pacing for playing through a game.

My problem is that I post in a thread on a game, and then it gets no responses and I get lonely and think I'm the only one who cares about it.

And there's not much (apart from games) that I want to talk about.

Also, nearly free from work, and I graduated just a few days ago. Just two more days. I'll then be free to continue the LP. Though it might require a push. I'm not enjoying XCOM 2 as much as the original, mostly because I feel all the timed missions REALLY push the game too far. Too much stress, too much "must play perfectly".

And I myself can tend to be an antisocial twit. I need to try to push myself more to get to know people outside of Academia, but I'm typically too scared, or can't think of anything good to say.

So we both have places to improve.

Also, thanks for sending that message. With such heated exchanges like that, I do tend to get the feeling that most of Academia hates me. So it's nice to know that there are no hard feelings about things after that sort of encounter. Thanks.

Your post did explain a lot a lot more clearly, and I'm typing up a response to it now. I also have a massive headache (new set of glasses that I'm getting used to), so I'm not sure that my behavior has been ideal either, and I apologize for any negativity I may have generated.

Crash Bandicoot which I can guarantee never had to worry about hardware limitations in the PSX
Actually I read a developer's retrospective a while back that confirms the opposite. Even the first game had to worry about it immensely, it's why the crates - which are only made out of a few polygons - ended up being such a huge thing.
  9. Of course, how could we not?!

    We can work with that

Selling "some" comic books

by Slothy on 06-16-2014 at 07:00 PM
I wanted to post this here in case any of you nerds were interested in purchasing some comics. After dragging my heels for more than a year because of how terrifying the thought of organizing them all was I'm finally starting to sell off most of my comic collection. I'll be keeping some things, but not much of it.

If anyone's interested you can check out my ad at this link:

Workout log: week 1

by Slothy on 06-22-2013 at 05:23 PM
I've been back to the gym for a little while now, but have been busy lately so I haven't been as consistent as I'd like. Figured starting a workout log might help to keep me on track to get there at least 3 days a week. Anyone who wants can feel free to post their workouts for the week in the comments as well if they want to partner up to keep each other motivated.

One thing which I won't post every single time is the warmup we do. We always warm up before starting strength work at

Would you like a copy of FTL: Faster Than Light?

by Slothy on 04-15-2013 at 01:31 PM
SC2 events seemed to fail to coalesce, so anyone interested in winning a copy of FTL: Faster Than Light on Steam just go to the events thread below and post. I'll be doing the draw on Friday and we're having an FTL get together this weekend which will include a special guest.

April Steam events: join for your chance to win free games

by Slothy on 04-07-2013 at 02:43 AM
Nope, I am not suddenly a spam bot (as far as I know).

I just wanted to mention for those that don't usually pay much attention to the Steam events that this month we're doing something a bit different. If you're able to join in for some games of Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm tomorrow, or FTL: Faster Than Light a few weeks from now, you'll have the chance to win FTL and the original Deus Ex.

You can check the thread linked below for the details. It should be lots
