Also btw, a new company of developers fired by Lucasarts (called Telltale) are making new Sam and Max games. I just bought the Complete First Season (it's a new idea - short episodic games that are cheap and made once a month). So far they're great games.

Lucasarts was about to make a full-length Sam and Max 2. It was almost finished (apparently 95% complete) when the company, in financial troubles, cancelled it. At least Telltale managed to get the rights and use them, after Lucasarts abandoned adventure games years ago, and still holds rights to games such as the Monkey Island series without bothering to make any new games or sell the rights.
