  1. I at least hope we can agree that moogles make lame black mages

    Also, is Catch any good?
  2. View Conversation
True, but I prefer the speed element to help make fights end quicker. Not to mention you can set the party up in a way where a Viera summoner can heal the party and damage the enemy.

That should work. Course I never used the Nu Muo too much.

Sage was always a weird class to me in FFTA. It just had a weird skill set that I wouldn't really attribute to such a class. The Seer from TA2 is closer to what I would expect. Anyway, I feel subbing White Magick is better for the class since most of it's magick is offensive based to start with so this should give it more functionality in gameplay unless you were going for a pure offense.

Heh, I do see the resemblance =P

I prefer my layering and build up in electronica pieces over orchestra. It works sometimes with orchestra but I feel Hamazu uses the technique too much, so it loses its specialty. He does do some good simpler themes but I often feel there are not enough of them on his soundtracks.

I think part of that is true but even with tracks from games I haven't played I'm just not feeling it.

I'm not feeling the leitmotifs, of anything they don't feel so much like leitmotifs as much as they just feel like arrangements of the same song. I was trying to figure out why I dislike the Sunleth Waterscape theme and besides being a bit too Pop for my taste, I realized when I was playing the Gran Pulse theme that it was basically the same theme as the Sunleth Waterscape just with a bit slower tempo and more strings.

I also feel he has the same issue as John Williams where he uses too many damn instruments. He does come up with some good melodies but the songs then start going full blown orchestra and the melody just feels lost in the cacophony of it all. Sakimoto has a similar issue if you ask me. I feel both overindulge in order to make the music feel more epic when I feel they should be showing much more restraint.

There are a few tracks in XIII-2 and LR that would have been great pieces if he had just not gone with the "go big or go home" and instead just let the simple melodies speak for themselves. It would be interesting to see him try to compose for an 8-bit or 16-bit sound card cause I feel he would be at a total loss since he would be stripped of so many of his musical tools.

I'm sure it will help to keep prodding her along.

After playing more of Theaterythm, I've come to the conclusion that I really don't like Masashi Hamauzu's style. X and the XIII trilogy have some of the weakest tracks for me to play. My issue is that I can't really place my finger on why I don't like it because whatever criticism I can think of, I know there is an example from another composer I like from the series, yet it doesn't bother me.

Yep, going to try and stay motivated. I have a coworker also doing this so I'm hoping we'll keep each other on track.

I'm starting a new project just to get it off the ground and take a break from my old things. Course I don't think my story will need to hit the 50k milestone to be finished so that kind of takes some of the pressure off of me. I'm hoping that working on something new will inspire me to go back to older projects.

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
