Eh... not the most pleasant of weekends due to drama and hotel roommates, not to mention that I got talked into modeling for a cosplay contest which ended up devouring all of my time so I saw very little of the con it self. I did get my panel, but my co-host decided to take a free trip to Scotland for the two weeks prior to the con (around the time I found out we would have the panel) so we really couldn't discuss what we wanted to talk about and basically spent 90 minutes dicking around and talked about JRPGs. Granted, I feel like we have really good chemistry in our discussions and we're both pretty funny when we need to be, but I still wanted to have a more intellectual discussion and I can't really do that with him sometimes. The audience was entertained at least. I also I got dragged into watching a nerd burlesque show, which was entertaining.

Not a whole lot, I've been at my convention all weekend and I was only playing Ruby and MGSV before that.

Well that sucks to learn. Well, I guess there is a reason why he's not really as well known as Nobuo Uematsu, who always seems to be a very cheerful guy.

I'll be sure to tell you more about my progress. I'm really storming through CoM to be honest, I think it is the fastest I've played a game. Not that I'm not enjoying it and want it over with, more because I want to get back to playing games that are further along the chronology or introduces some very important plot points, like BBS.

So I've spent a day just playing Re: CoM. the card system is... interesting, but I've chosen Easy so I've not found it so hard yet. Running around tends to help. I'm on like, the fourth floor now I think with Sora?

I've noticed that many of the major cut-scenes take place in the same white corridor, which gets old fast. Also noticed: the voice acting of Sora has gone for the older KH: II variety. It's not fitting exactly, but otherwise I'm impressed overall with the presentation of the game.

I've been playing bits of KH: II on the side as well, just got to Hollow Bastion: visit one. There's a new platforming sidequest called puzzles. Basically across the maps you collect puzzle pieces, using the skills you have to reach them. I'm guessing there's some reward. Another difference in Final Mix, I'm fairly sure there's a new cutscene that I don't remember being in vanilla KH: II, so that was cool.

The DS version does something different. Your stat gains are completely based on which augments you give the character, so maxing out stats requires careful planning on the types of augments you give the party.

Shame about the music being switched. Wonder if it has to do with space limitations.

Okay, I'll bear that in mind. Thanks Fynn!

I imagine playing CoM will elevate my opinion of Riku? Because honestly having only played I and II I'm not a massive fan. He comes across as broody and angsty. I mean, he is better in II because he isn't a villain, but still.

And he's joint main character in DDD so I'm going to have like him by that point.

I am intrigued with Days, because it tells you much more about how the Organisation operates as a whole. I guess CoM does that as well I guess. Still thanks Fynn for sticking up with my 'ugh the remixes ugh so many games' because I got the first two remixes for really not that much for what is effectively six games. I am now at peace with the KH franchise and the plethora of games it has in the catalogue.

Okay, I caved in and bought Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix. It was essentially free as I had in-store credit which reduced the £18.00 to like, a £1, or something like that? So it was worth it.

And the good news is Mr. Carny (who traditionally never saw the point of Kingdom Hearts) is going to give it a go. So there's that.

I'll watch 352/2 Days tonight when I get the chance, as that requires little effort. No promises on whether or not I'll complete CoM before I tackle KH: II (card based combat sounds... confusing), though I do promise I'll play and complete CoM before BBS. I'll watch Re:Coded last, as I have literally no opinion on that entry.

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
