    It's hardly hard to find.

So just how large is your apartment? Mine and Carny's is... I don't know how to describe size. It's the top floor of a house. We have a fairly decent sized living room, a hallway, a small but suitable sized bedroom, a nice, bright kitchen and a decent sized bathroom.

Basically everything is 'big enough'. I'm chuffed with it, to be honest. I think a mortgage is a few years off yet!

Well, here's hoping you return to domestic bliss soon. Me and Carny moved into our apartment recently and we had our own share of issues - namely the internet and the boiler. But both are fixed now.

Also, I'm surprised you haven't responded to my least favourite word thread. Given your translation background I would've thought you would have an opinion!

Well, here's hoping you guys don't catch the Black Death!

I sound flippant, but honestly do take care of yourselves. You already seem rather hygiene conscious, so I have faith in your survival!

When did you move into your apartment, by the way? Has this been a recent thing?

I feel the characters, at least the main four, are probably going to be the best aspect of the game. I'm just not sure that will be enough to carry it through the game. We'll have to wait and see of course.

I'm pretty sure it will be better than XIII, not that doing so will be much of a challenge, but I can already see some of the pitfalls of the games design. If it's combat felt closer to say Kingdom Hearts, it wouldn't really be a problem but it just feels a bit off. Not to mention the weapon changing function is neat on paper, but I feel SE is forgetting the lesson learned with FFXII and that most players will always take the laziest route when dealing with combat and gameplay, so I can see many people being turned off by this game because they'll stick to one weapon and spamming teleport to recharge health to win 90% of the game. Magic was also not that engaging either but I find that very few action-Rpgs have ever found a decent way to to do magic in their game design, and the demo didn't really relieve that concern for me.

I'm also a bit reluctant about a story dealing with a group of characters traveling to a specific destination that will be most of the story. Considering how I felt about the last game that did that ploy, I can't really say I'm super excited in the story department either.

I don't mean to be a debbie downer, but SE has a pretty bad track record going for them right now and there are enough legitimate issues already arising from this game to give me the impression that we're still a ways away from SE redeeming sixteen years of mediocrity and bad choices. I'm almost to the point where I feel like the best solution would be for the company to lay off everyone and just hire a completely new staff so fans would finally go in with no expectations.

I'm still on the fence with FFXV. There are certainly a lot of elements going for it right now, but my time with the demo has me concerned that the gameplay is not my deal. I'll probably get around to it eventually, but this will probably be the first non-MMO entry I don't race out to buy when it first comes out. I'm frankly more excited about Persona 5 and February can't really come soon enough. The fact I don't have to buy a new console makes it a sweeter deal for me as well, as I'm just having a hard time justifying buying a new console when I really didn't feel like I got my money's worth last gen. Maybe I'm just getting too picky in my old age.

To be fair, I always felt that Xenoblade Chronicles would be kind of a one time deal. XCX looked really interesting initially, and I'm still hyped about having Mecha in the game, but the more I learned about it the more apparent it became that the game was just an odd semi-online/offline MMO much like White Knight Chronicles turned out to be. It's probably better than that game, but I figured early on that the game wasn't going to be as interesting as XC was. I mean it was the world and concept that drew me to that game, the fact the gameplay, characters and story were great as well just kind of sealed the deal but XCX was always going to have a problem trying to follow that up.

Hopefully, Monolith Soft's next title will be pretty interesting.

Eh, honestly, I've never been hyped about XV at all. I didn't even watch the 50 minutes of gameplay. There's never been anything about it that grabbed me or made me interested enough to sit through it. I watched the initial trailer, and one more section later on about the boys taking a road trip (which looked like the most boring thing I've seen in years), and finally the trailer bit about the brief section with the playable girl. That's all I've seen on the game, period. The promotional material I've seen has been largely static images which are pretentious as heck and tell you nothing about the game (except that they can render someone's face much better than they used to be able to), and which make it seem like overly dark and dramatic, which is a tone I don't think Square has ever really handled well.

My comment, however, wasn't on FFXV, but Square in general (the "future projects" thing). Square only knows how to make one kind of visual style, which is hyperrealism. They only know one writing style, which is overcomplicated and nonsensical, instead of actually good. And they only know one gameplay style, which is action RPG. Everything the company used to have has been either wiped away, or given to the Bravely Default teams and Tokyo RPG Factory.

Maybe you're right. Maybe XV will be awesome. I don't know that I care enough to try anymore. And if it is, it'll be a happy accident, not a trend that will continue (which is why FFVII Remake looks terrible). Because Square doesn't know what made its old games great.

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
