So it would be seen as canon then?
  2. View Conversation
No, no, it is perfectly okay. Don't worry, I'll get to SMT IV.

What is SMT IV: Final looking like anyway? It seems nothing like it.
  3. View Conversation
From the looks of the diagram, SMT IV is based somewhat on this 'true demon' ending of SMT III. Sounds pretty grim if you ask me.

What the hell am I looking at?!?

That's so complex it almost hurts my brain. The Persona Series has a much simpler timeline.

Okay, so P5 will likely be a case of beating Pyro Jack in battle, who then gives you a Pyro Jack persona card in return? I can just about grasp that.

If so, I wonder what's changed in the Persona timeline for demons to appear. You said demons appeared in isolated cases in P2, and didn't appear at all in P3 and P4. P5 is presumably set after these three games, so something has sparked demons to return.

So how does it work then? Because currently, I've experienced 'demons' as actually being 'personas', form the sea of the soul. You fight shadows, not demons, and the personas aid you.

So in Persona 5, do you... beat up some demons, and they become personas? I'm admittedly finding it hard to grasp that aspect.

I went with the P3 route first. I figured I've played P4 (that was meant to be P4: G without the space, but it hilariously made it s smiley. I kept it in) last, so I headed back into P3 land. I fully intend to do the P4 route, maybe after tackling the Arena duology.

And SMT: IV is on my radar. Just let me bask in uplifting, colorful fun a while longer before I get into a world of 'demons' and what have you.

I do need to play at least one SMT game, because Persona 5 has us actually fighting 'demons'. No more shadows, I take it.

I see you've taken a liking to the Zero Escape series; Karifean has taught you well, I'm glad.

Anyway, I didn't come here to snoop around your VMs. Me and Mr. Carny have started the Persona Q series! Well, I say started, it has been about a week, but we're both at the end of the first dungeon. I have to say, there are some scenes that are really, really funny. I'm enjoying the combat and the story. There is a pretty definite mystery surrounding Rei and Zen. I have a theory about Rei, but I'm not too sure just yet.

Ever17. It's quite different from Zero Escape (a lot more lighthearted and slow-paced) but it executes its twists just so damn well.

I can definitely see where you're coming from. I didn't really dig the story of 999 all that much for déjà vu reasons while I really liked the trust/betrayal motif of Virtue's Last Reward. There was something about not just having one unkown entity be your common foe but rather having EVERYONE be wary and distrusting of one another that stuck with me more. While I saw the "his face is actually different" thing coming a mile away for the same reason 999 never managed to surprise me, and the silly foreshadowing they had in there was not convincing at all (SPOILER)OH LOOK AT THAT WE GAVE YOU THE TIMELINE GRAPH REALLY EARLY ON YOU JUST DIDN'T GET IT I still overall preferred it despite its flaws. It also didn't get nearly as tiring as 999 did because of its technical problems which helped a lot.

It's certainly true that 999 is more self-contained than VLR though. I couldn't believe it when VLR ended on a cliffhanger. But I decided that it's just unfinished and I won't judge it for it until I've read the third part :P

And I actually quite enjoyed the little extra "secret ending" scene in VLR. It's not much but it really helped to round out the experience.

(Still prefer the bigger brother of the ZE series :P)

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
