They were kinda low-budget, but I still thought they were enjoyable. I don't know that any anime cutscenes particularly stood out to me in any game of that era though.

If I remember right, you will be able to work on social links then. I did play Golden, but only once, and I think I got all the social links that I really cared about by then anyways. I know you get more time for social links at least. Assuming you've played P4 before, I'll have to get your opinion on the added content when you've finished. I've only played Golden so don't really have a reference to what things were like pre-Marie and whatnot.

Also, out of curiosity, do you prefer P3 or P4 in terms of story and characters?

It's kind of hard to pick a favorite, but I have always liked Junpei. I've read up elsewhere and he seems to not be very well liked, but he's probably the most "real" character to me. I liked his whole story. He was also always with me in battle.

I feel like the game would still be fantastic in P3P, but I'm a sucker CG/animated cutscenes. I quite liked them. It's not as big a deal in a second playthrough, but I'd still be playing for the story and character interactions moreso than the gameplay probably.

I saw mention of P3 and Junpei as I was going over to send Kanno a VM. Man that's such a good game.

Edit: I still can't decide if I want to one day get/try out P3P. I feel like it would be good to do the social links and whatnot. I just actually really like the cutscenes in FES.

Editra: Also, I decided to go with Bravely Default next in the end. I forgot just how good the music was.

Glad you've come to really enjoy the themes of P3. I will admit that P3 is easily my favorite of the Persona games with P2 in close second. I absolutely love how they tackled it's themes and I find it may be why I'm just so damn judgmental about FFXIII because it tried to do the same thing and missed the mark at every opportunity.

Yukari is simply nagging and stand-offish which makes her unlikable to most people expecting spunky. Again, I actually really grew to appreciate Yukari because I felt she was also pretty realistic about the whole situation and I felt her faults made her, like Junpei, a more relatable character. I like Mitsuru and Fuuka but neither stray far from their stock character as Yuakri and Junpei do so I find that while they are enjoyable, they are less relatable as people. With that said Akihiko and Mitsuru were still my favorites of the cast.

I really enjoyed the ending to P3, originally it was pretty ambiguous but I always found it to be uplifting as well. Yeah, seriously I feel it was probably the last really well done JRPG until Xenoblade.

I always preferred Junpei over Yosuke, largely because he always felt more real to me. His jealous streak is annoying but it was also a very human response and I liked how he really seemed to have a pretty realistic take on the whole story. I think the art book mentioned that Junpei was the most human character in the story and most relatable to the production team and I can really see that.

And what I meant to say in that last message is I really wish this game had a system like Bravely Default so I could turn off random encounters right now.

All I know is that the encounter rate is killing me right now. I've had battles every two steps. Sometimes every 1 step. Don't know why it got so much worse at this particular moment, heh.

What? I get you just fine. You wear white, you're a wizard, and you're from Fynn.

I have a reputation bigger than Tifa's bust? Yes, I already knew that.

I can't decide if I want to move to Eternal Punishment first or go to something like Radiant Historia when I'm done.

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
