I was going to sit down and write something for your love story contest, but I just can't think of any good ideas. I'm way too out of practice, and I ran out of time for the day to complete it. This is very unfortunate.

Also, how have you been? I'm going to try to be more active in Timber Maniacs this year because I need to get back in the habit of writing. I'm going to try to actually work on getting a completed manuscript this year to potentially self publish for fun.

It breaks the early game for sure, especially since a lot of things in the early game are weak to Wind, but it does start to lose it's luster after awhile, depending on what you combo Shikari with or when Ninja Blades become more prominent in the second half of the game.

Yes, though the treasures don't always have a 100% chance to spawn except for low level stuff. So it is still possible to miss things cause the treasure chest only spawns 30 to 25% of the time. There are some chests that still stick to the annoying 1% spawn as well, but there is usually another way to get the item. Lots of gear has been moved around as well and if you want to break the game early, I'd advise doing the Gilgamesh fight as early as possible cause the Lhusu Mines have some insane gear/spells waiting for you in the second half. This does kind of create some awkward balance though as I was able to get Scathe long before I unlocked Holy, Scourge, or Flare which is as broken as it sounds except that elemental damage is still way overpowered in this game.

The Zodiac Spear and Zodiac Shield are now attached to the Hunt Club quest. You can either get one of them by giving all of the trophies to either Atak or Bloc depending on which you want, or you can give each of the brothers ten trophies apiece and the merchant will sell both items for a ridiculous price.

Treasures have been moved around, but not enemy drops. So you can still farm the really powerful Gladius Knife from the Rare Game Wolf in the Westersand (I highly recommend this since it will be the best weapon for Shikari for awhile) to name a few. Some item rewards for Mark Hunts and side-quests have been changed as well though not too much.

Yeah, a good chunk of the magic and most of the Techniks are now treasures you have to find.

It also helps that certain support licenses are shared among all the boards so leveling it up on one will have it shown as picked up on the other board. This means in order to get all of the valuable Speed, Strength, and Magic licenses, you'll have to plan carefully. It was the reason why I gave Monk to Basch instead of Foebreaker cause Foebreaker ultimately had the exact same support licenses as Knight, and if I wanted to get any more boost for Basch, I needed to switch him to the Monk which earned him another speed license and a crap ton more strength and HP licenses.

That's inevitable I'm afraid, especially since Knight and Bushi have several great options, so they will likely take on all of the Espers. Shikari also has an annoying one that involves getting access to a strong mid-level ninja blade early, or the end game ones, which you'll likely not see until Giruvegan. It's honestly one of the better implemented mechanics for the new license board. I will say you should hold off accessing Quickenings until you give your party the second license board.

It's certainly a better cast than most of the fans feel it is.

I felt the same way about Penelo in my playthrough. She's actually a more fun and insightful character. Fran is also Ms. Exposition for like 90% of the game. Really, I feel like people missed the point with the game's cast overall.

They did a fine job with the game, and changes all feel subtle but they really change the feel of the game. I enjoyed it.

    Well that sucks.

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
