DQII is pretty notorious for being bad about explaining where to go next, and I remember the last section before going through Rhone is also mind boggling non-intuitive without a guide. Granted, I feel every entry has at least one point where you feel like this, but I agree DQII is the worst offender.

That sounds like a new bug in the port. I don't remember anything weird like that in the NES version. I've noticed the ports tend to be higher in bugs though. In the ports of DQIII for instance, when you used the Merchant ability to summon a Merchant, the code was done weird so it was possible to summon a Merchant from late parts ASAP if you started a new game but had a late save on another save file for the game.

I figure your real life is pretty hectic now, so no worries. Glad to hear the DQ love is still going strong for you. I on the other hand fell out of the swing of things and I'm now cycling through the Metal Gear franchise instead. I finished the first three installments and I'm now going to start MGS2 tonight. I am still keeping up on DQIV, but I'm almost finished with Torneko's chapter and I know my interest will likely crash not long after that. I may switch back to Soul Hackers instead or try to finish Tactics Ogre.

With that said, my writing could be going better. I've only seem to be able to write into the story bible sporadically for my Spider-Man project, and I wrote a short piece I may enter into the EoFF Halloween contest so I can save the longer piece for a contest entry. It will likely depend on if I get any more work done on the other story on which I'll enter, but at least I have a backup if the other one drags.

It would probably play just like IX.

I know the producer was wanting to bring it over, but it's going to be a struggle for him cause DQ just never gets the type of numbers SE wants. I think XI is the first entry since the remake of DQV that SE has actually published in the West, and even then they opted for the PS4 version alone. VI, VIIR, VIIIR, and IX were all published by Nintendo. Course, the West's aversion of handhelds could also be to blame, not to mention SE seems to be doubling down on console releases this gen.

I'm using this as a pretense to finish a story, but I oddly came up with an interesting short story in the meantime I'm still thinking of writing down. One that would be only two or three paragraphs long.

My biggest time waster is brainstorming ideas for an alternate Spider-Man character I created that a friend of mine is helping me with. I think she might be one of my favorite characters I've come up with, and I think all of The Sandman stories I've read lately is starting to affect the narrative, but in a really good way. I originally intended for her to be a story exploring the legacy of Spider-Man, but now it's turning into a discussion of the super hero genre itself, which has been really exciting so far.

Well you did have a new addition to the family to think about, so it's understandable. I've been meaning to get something for a contest but I keep missing deadlines thanks to RL stuff and jumping onto new projects before finishing the old ones. So I totally understand. There's still the Halloween contest though.

Funny enough, I had that series recommended to me and watched the first one. I was going to link it to you but figured you already saw it.

He'd probably be called Zenith Dragon then. He's an optional boss introduced in the Super Famicom version and was in the GBC version as well. He grants wishes if you can defeat him within a certain amount of turns. One wish is a new Pasheesi Track, one if a wish to revive Ortega, and the last gives you the Dirty Magazine item which grants the Lewd (Male) and Sexy (Female) personality. He looks like Shenlong from Dragon Ball.

That sucks, it's such an amusing mini-game, and if you played your cards right, an easy way to get an edge in the game because the weapon shops on the board usually sold really powerful gear earlier than usual, in addition to just the prizes you could win. The GBC version actually had a strange glitch left into where it was possible to send one of your characters to max level after a battle on the board. Does the mobile version keep the Divingon? I know the Monster Medals was a GBC exclusive.

Yeah, I started playing it again a while ago, but then the burnout quickly set in, and I learned I couldn't acquire the full Loto/Erdrick Gear because the online component is gone and apparently one of the pieces is stuck behind an optional mission released when the game was new. It's the Achilles Heel of the DS in general if you ask me because FFIII and a few other RPGs are forever incomplete on the system.

Torneko's chapter is still amusing, partly because it's easier to progress quickly since everything in the chapter drops loot. You barely have to buy stuff for him which cuts down on the grinding. I do wish there was more to his shopkeeper mini-game, especially since in DQIII, I left the Bazaar town where haggling was a thing.

Due to my PS3 controller battery dying and needing to recharge on my PS3, I ended up plugging in the Metal Gear HD Collection I accidentally acquired, so I spent the weekend tackling the original Metal Gear for MSX, and now I want to start Metal Gear 2 again. Silent Hill 3 is staring at me though...

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
