Yep, that's what you have to do.

That's good, a combination of Dark Souls 2 and my laziness has stopped my writing in its tracks, but I plan on rectifying that today.

Yeah, I'm kind of sick of the whole new Extra Waifu Edition entries Atlus is doing. Though to be fair to them, they still get pretty positve receptions but I can't help but cringe. Still, it's not like MGS and Silent Hill are not filled with Japanese cultural elements in an "this is obviously the U.S" for their games, so I'm willing to let Catherine slide. Especially since the original was already guilty of it with the eateries seen in the game because we don't have conveyor belt sushi joints or causal restaurants where the staff wear formal wear, but the patrons are not required.

Yeah, this feels too much like a clickbait article. Let's also just poitn out how the other two K/Catherines were sexualized in their own art work with Catherine being a boob girl and Katherine being a butt girl, so there is really only one sexualized place to go for a third girl. Not to mention Catherine herself kind of covered more of the suggestive posing in the original artwork anyway.

I'm going to be skeptical and say this is people looking too hard into this. Vincent does a lot of screaming in Catherine, and outside of context, most people wouldn't normally scream in some of those instances either. I mean, if I was being plagued by nightmares while also being stalked by a psycho blond bombshell I'm cheating on with my real GF and then a third girl showed up and "flashed the goods", I don't exactly think that "Gosh I'm so lucky I'm this popular!" would be my first reaction either in that situation.

Are you sure they're not still whining about the trans character that was already in the game? It wasn't as much of a hot button issue back when it first came out so it didn't cause as much controversy then, but I can see today's overly-sensitive, knee jerk reacting internet finally picking up on it and being it's typical self in regards to this issue. Doesn't help that Japan is still cool with using LGBT issues for comedy, which it certainly was in the original Catherine.

You've reached the point where Ilost interest in the series. I could never really get into Daggit's character and the show really lost the nice chemistry Anderson and Duchovny had with each other. I think the first two seasons are really my favorite, but that's probably because there really was nothing like them at the time so it was pretty groundbreaking at the time. When I was going through the series again a year or so ago, I stopped after season 5, so my memory is pretty foggy right now.

As for XCX, you can tell by all of his past games that Sci-Fi is Takahashi's first love, so I'm not surprised the "game he always wanted to make" was going to be more of a pure sci-fi type of deal. I hear XC2 has more of a Gears/Saga vibe, but I always felt even the original XC1 had that going for it as well thanks to the art design and the final act of the plot.

I've never played any of the Elder Scroll games to be able to make a judgement on how similar or different they both are. In the Souls titles, you generally get just enough info to know what you need to do, but if you ever want to know the backstory for all of the characters and enemies, you need to find the lore bits given in item descriptions. On the brightside, it makes it more rewarding to explore and be a completionist since every item adds a bit to the story. Of course, more impressive is the work by the community like VaatiVidya, who creates really cool lore videos on Youtube for the community, such as:

    Bloodborne Lore

I feel the real beef people had with it was they wanted a more character driven piece, it's the FFXII/Matsuno issue of people expecting another FFX, and instead getting a more grounded and objective piece about large conflict instead of personal ones. Throw in the fact that XCX is a much harder Sci-Fi story than we've seen from this team, and I can see where some fans of the first game may be coming off a bit disappointed.

The Souls series is mostly interesting because the story and world are kind of a mystery that you the player have to piece together. You're often just a nobody who happened to wander into a dangerous place long after the real serious stuff happened but now you need to piece together all the clues to figure out what's going on and why everything seems so smurfed up. It also has that great Matsuno draw of morality never being cut or dry. You're not always rewarded for saving everyone and saving some people can seriously cost you. Former allies you help will eventually turn on you for one reason or another, and even the games various endings all have ambiguous elements that make you wonder if you're really doing the right thing. Bloodborne might be the only entry where the endings don't necessarily have that ambiguous nature, but even they all tend to make you wonder if this was really the best choice in the matter since your endings basically can be summed up as "leaving the dream, taking over the dream, and transcending the dream". There is a lot more player interpretation going on here and it's pretty cool. It's also just really hard to find games that do Dark Fantasy and Lovecraft right, so bonus points there.

I can see that, it's also not like Xenoblade's battle system didn't have room to improve.

I have, for some reason, gotten back into a Dark Souls mood, so that will likely be consuming my life for the next month or two.

I'll probably start work on it in the next few days or so. I have to gather my thoughts.

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
