Very true, and I did find the After Years to be an interesting title even if I had some issues with it.

I never cared for the Lunar Trials because they felt so off from IV as a gameplay experience making them feel a bit more tacked on than I would care for. With that said, I love the extra dungeons for FFV and VI. I just hate V's new classes. They don't do it for me.

Or you could do the fan version via emulator like I am for my Let's Play and let her do the GBA version. You at least get the good version of the music and slightly better translation over the PS1 version.

There is a lot of heavy references to FFII in the older supplemtal material for IV, but the details show they are completely different worlds. Minwu for example is a described as a Sage who founded Mysidia and created most known magics, but when his followers grew arrogant with their power, he sealed all magic away before his death. People like Tellah and the Mysidian Elder were scholars in their youth using their talent to break those seals and restore magic, though with better guidance. Meteor is said to be one of the last spells still sealed.

Likewise, one of the founder's of Fabul is said to have been a former Dark Knight named Leonhart, who came to the temple to redeem himself for his crimes and dedicated himself to the monastery. It's the reason why Fabul has a Dark Knight sword, because it was meant to be Leonharts. I think there was maybe one or two more references but they were really minor compared to these two.

The hellcats tend to go ultraconservative in their old age. My former boss was the same way.

I like the headcanon from some of the supplemental materials that are likely non-canon by this point but interesting nonetheless. Tellah is usually described as a prodigy who grew incredibly arrogant as he developed magics and broke the seals on Minwu's forbidden magics. Thus he likely was someone who led a life of debauchery at some point.

I mean to be fair, the old thing is likely them taking some historical liberties with the pseudo-medieval setting and having Tellah feel older because his life expectancy is probably not that high. Cid lives in a more industrial setting so he's not as afflicted and has a higher life expectancy because of it.

That or just assume that Tellah lived a rough life where he partied too hard and never took care of himself. I used to work with a guy like that and despite only being nine years older than me, he looked like he could be my father.

Yeah, there is a lot of hope that the US rejection of Trump may lead other countries to ditch their strongman leaders as well. Can only hope.

More like our cautionary tale of what we'll end up like if we don't stop our partisan bulltrout and making each side the mortal enemy of everything the other side holds dear.

Though hilariously, the examples used by your leader are the exact same ones used by our dumbass in chief, your leader just sounds more competent in executing it, whereas ours needed his media goons to try to spin all his failures into successes.

Ha, there is an article in Bloomberg that discusses how U.S. partisan politics will make us more like Poland.

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
