Go for it if you feel it will help. I'm dancing back and forth between adding a few things to some previous chapters to help with my current one for my novel while also still writing the Story Bible for the second novel.

BB is pretty awesome. Honestly the game has been really interesting. In a post-apocalyptic world, it would be the delivery people who would likely see the most action.

Oh Takahashi and his archetypes. Not that I can't say the same about Kojima. Death Stranding may not have much to do with MGS, but you can feel the franchise's influence everywhere. Hell, even the part of the game where Sam gets recruited to help Bridges feels like a callback to MGS1's secret briefing with Solid Snake, which itself is a homage to Escape from New York.

To be fair, I have like 25-30 different story ideas jotted down on a file to work on, and of all those titles, only about four of them illicit that feeling from me. Even then, I'm still not so sure any of them will ever see the light of day at the pace I'm working on them.

The only good thing that has happened for me lately is that I've been working on my novel again. I gave up NaNo really quickly partly due to losing interest in my project rather quickly. To the point that is may be one of the few story projects I'm going to can indefinitely because I don't feel I have an interesting hook for it that will keep me focused. On the other hand, Tactics Ogre got me looking back at one of my novels, and Death Stranding has me wanting to work on my main novel. Some of the elements of the story is reminiscent to some ideas I had for it, so I'm getting inspired to go back to it and rewrite a few sections while finally moving forward with it.

While my main novel is still a mess, I still love the fact that it makes me excited. Even when I doubt my skills to make it come to life, I still feel a real sense of pride and excitement when I think about the plot and characters.

I'll try to get to it. I've just been over-indulging in distractions for the sake of my psyche.

Oh yeah... totally slipped that. Sorry!

Last month was kind of really stressful for me so I've been forgetting a lot of things. I still have another mognet message I have to get back to as well.

Oh I love the new production values, as I said, my issue is really with the game play changes. I prefer building individual units over leveling an interchangeable job system. It's why Valkyria Chronicles always rubbed me the wrong way because I feel this approach makes units less important since replacing a dead one is easy peasy. Losing your Terror Knight in the original after not saving for awhile became a serious debate on a hard reset. Not to mention that leveling up individual classes was much easier in the original since it used an XP system like FFT as opposed to the remake using FFTA's system so getting a new job is an absolute chore since it takes forever to level them up. I have Caitiua's Princess class, but I'l likely going to ignore it because I don't want to raise a lv. 1 class this late in the game. I'm still annoyed that Ozma's Commander class is risky to use in battle because she can't catch up fast enough with my established party. It just hurts the specialty classes.

I also dislike how we lost a few classes because they got merged together like the male and female cleric and mage classes. It tears down diversity in party builds and lowers risk from the players. Most of all, I just hate the skill system because it largely undermines itself since classes are practically cannon fodder if you don't fill up their whole skill sheet with basic stat boosting skills. My Terror Knight has a bunch of interesting skills, but I'll never use them cause he needs Fortify III so he doesn't get one shot by enemies the same level as him, and my Knight needs Truestrike II is she's going to ever hit anything. Compound this with how new classes start at level one and new characters rarely have good starting skills, and it just makes getting new party members and specialty classes a chore since they'll be too weak to contribute into battle without needless extra grinding. I'm just annoyed that the game keeps throwing new classes and characters at me, but I'm constantly sidelining them because they are useless compared to my party from Chapter 1. The new system just stymies experimentation. There is a reason why most players say for you to just build a team of archers and go win the game.

I also just prefer having classes unlocked based on stats, as it made going after tarot card drops that much more important. The mark system is just really boring and it takes away from the most unique aspect of TO/OB's class system.

As for the other thing, I can only imagine what you dreamed I looked like if I actually showed up. I imagine I'd look like my avatar or something.

I am. I just really hate how they changed the class system in this game. I hate the skill system because I feel it takes away from the units too much which is really jarring because TO/OB were all about specialized units and being smart about how you used them. I'm annoyed that a lot of the mechanics in the game seem to be built for the new post-game content so it's been difficult to feel satisfaction building my team in the main campaign mode because all the real cool options and easier grinding spots open up after you finish the game.

It's really reminiscent of FFIII DS where a lot of the changes to make it more palpable for newer players ultimately lobotomize a lot of what made the game fun and special to begin with. In stead I feel like it took a lot of the worst aspects from FFTA2 from the game design side of things. I love the story though, I may even dare say that I feel it's actually better that FFT for me, though it will be interesting to see how the alternate paths go since I went and took the Law path, which makes me human scum.

The PSP version of Tactics Ogre infuriates me because its addicting as hell but man I have a lot of gripes about the changes in the game. I think I honestly love the original version better despite its own headaches.

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
