Well Nintendo has a knack for getting their core games right most of the time. Despite Skyward Sword being one of my least favorite console entries, it's still a blast to play. Hell, I can't really think of a Zelda game I've played that wasn't pretty fun on some level.

I feel in SF2's case, the game was trying to recapture the feel of Legend of Mana, but Mana was always established as a cutesy but really messed up world, so the juxtapation of the audio/visual design only enhanced that aspect. Even then, Yoko Shimomura kind of knows when to drop the act and compose something that really fits the scene. I imagine Hamazua was just pressured to follow along with the aesthetics cause I know they can do better. SF2 has just been weird cause while it's a pretty fun game, it really had all the ingredients to be something special and it just kind of falls flat.

Well I'm glad you reach the character you were the most excited for.

Going through the OST, I'm finding that I'm liking more pieces than being indifferent too. I've also decided that Hamazu's real strength is in battle themes, as SaGa Frontier 2 has some pretty snazzy battle tracks. The rest of the soundtrack is sadly unremarkable and I feel the composer or possibly the director leaned too hard on inspiration from the game's visual style. Despite how grim the game is, the soundtrack is way too cheerful and upbeat for the content.

Angel's Fear/Cry of the Heavens is like one of the best SNES tracks in general if you ask me.

I did recently acquire the soundtrack to Secret of Mana, and I must say, I am kicking myself for not picking it up sooner. I kind of forgot how many great tracks there were in the soundtrack.

I'm not being as productive as I should be but likely cause I'm trying to manage rl stuff. I've dabbled a bit here and there with writing but no worthwhile progress. Mainly just paying bills and playing SaGa games.

I've only played FFLegends 2 before now, and I didn't even finish that game before I gave it back to my friend.

"Plunged in head first" actually. I'm playing SaGa 1 (FFLegends) on the GBA and I'm tackling SaGa Frontier 2 as well. I'm probably going to make a thread soon.

I honestly feel that a short Open World game isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Figured you would get a kick out of this, do they sound familiar?

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
