No, this is an archaic Tactical RPG, so it's a do it all at once experience. Hell, I just discovered last night how to change accessories mid-battle which would have been super useful to know for that dungeon...

On the brightside, I'm at the very end of the first game, and I'll soon be able to jump into the vastly better Arc the Lad 2.

Depending on what magic you have, I would go in with a full mage party and maybe one melee but crowd control is your friend for that fight at first and then it's all about healing. Black Belt's to counter immobilize are a necessity.

Arc the Lad has reminded me of why I strongly dislike multi-floor dungeons in Tactical RPGs. I just did the optional 50-Floor Super Dungeon and it took me most of the freaking night to complete. Not helped that the devs thought it would be a great idea to make sure there is no warp out of the final floor and instead I have to waltz back up through all fifty floors...

The Necrohol is a nasty place in general, as for Cuchalain, what is your team set-up?

Odd, could be an accent slip though.

Roblon was the first Mark Hunt to give me serious trouble and I think I needed Slowga to finally make that fight work for me.

Oddly, I don't feel like I've played as many as some people.

It was one of the first Tactical RPGs made for the PlayStation and was jointly developed by the same studio that made Front Mission for Square-Enix before it was bought out by them. It was one of the first RPGs to have CGI Cutscenes, and to use the Save Data transfer feature. The first game is pretty vanilla, but the sequel is a vast improvement and frankly feels like a game that Square may have been borrowing ideas from for FFVII. There is actually some amusing historical anecdotes about the title cause Sony refused to give the rights of the games for Western publishing until the head of SCEA stepped down and the RPG market changed in the West.

Now that I've kind of got my Dark Souls fix, and can wait a bit on DSIII, I've been blogging about a few titles that I wanted to put on my Top 100 but felt they weren't as strong for me as I would like. Course, this also means I need to play through a couple of them to remember what it was that fell short for me, so I am currently going back through the Arc the Lad Trilogy.

The difficulty curve is much lower. I was actually kind of disappointed how badly I thrashed the Hell Wrym when I got around to fighting him. Hell, if Omega didn't have Darkja, I would have destroyed him my first attempt and my actual victory match largely involved Basch killing the poor guy before he even had a chance to cast his paling. Like he did a ten hit combo and finished him in the very opening of the fight.

Part of your world

by Fynn on 06-06-2017 at 04:37 PM
So there's this nagging issue I've had for quite some time now. It's a pretty abstract issue but one I think is pretty interesting and perhaps even important to share nonetheless. For many reasons, it has only become more pronounced recently.

As some of you may know, I want to be a writer. I try to do as much writing as I can. I even do writing for a living, though as an SEO copywriter, it's not exactly that I have an opportunity to spread my creative wings as part of what keeps giving

On FFVII (part of my Fmarathon rant)

by Fynn on 11-23-2016 at 11:16 AM
Decided this is worthy of being a blog-post, since it turned out to be a much bigger rant than I expected and I'm not sure the marathon's audience is really there for that kind of stuff

Frustrations of the writerly sort

by Fynn on 07-01-2016 at 11:13 AM
So there's this thing I've been struggling for quite some time. I don't want to call it a "writer's block" because it kind of seems like an excuse for being lazy. And it usually doesn't last long. This is something that's been eating at me for a long time.

I just kinda feel that I can't write anymore.

I mean, I still write articles for the site sometimes and I write other texts at my work, but it seems like, creatively, I've dried up. I'll come up with ideas

On story expectations

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 11:57 AM
So this is kind of a general discussion, but the general rant I have is based on three popular 3DS RPGs: Bravely Default, Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Shin Megami Tensei IV. Sorry if this is chaotic, as I'm just writing this as it comes into my mind. Also, spoilers from the three games abound.

All of those games were very well received, though for different reasons. SMT is kind of here to serve as a neutral ground, as the evaluation of its story is pretty divided, whereas the consensus

Character Appreciation: Junpei Iori

by Fynn on 03-30-2016 at 10:37 AM
This is in no way an idea I stole from Pumpkin, no siree.

Junpei Iori is a character from the Persona franchise. He first appears in Persona 3 and all of its subsequent releases as a playable party member. He becomes a social link character as well in the female path of Persona 3 Portable, though he isn't date-able. He is also playable in
