I mean that getting the electric would be getting ahead of yourself. It's better to learn how to play a guitar correctly first and I have heard that that is done better on an acoustic. Then you may progress to electric.

I started with an electric and moved onto acoustic later, and I turned out alright, though I think I would be better now had I started on acoustic. I still love playing both though.

Acoustic guitars are good because you can play them anywhere: take them to the beach, to parties etc. And you don't have to set it all up everywhere you go.
