Dress like an average looking person going to the bank, hand over letter demanding $3-5k from the till, leave, repeat elsewhere after a while.

Bank regs prevent any fuss, because it's such a small amount. Police don't bother chasing, because it's such a small amount. Just make sure you go to many banks in many places.
