I mean, I don't think people are afraid of it because of societal pressures but rather that it takes a considerable toll and you get physically worse every day once you hit your your 20s xD

It would be really weird, I think, to remain youthful while "aging" (as it were). There's a certain function to feeling older as time goes by, maybe.
