Did you watch Kong : Skull Island? I think some parts of the movie was flimed at Ninh Binh. The rice fields along the river is beautiful!

Actually if you follow a tour group, getting everywhere is easier (cities, towns, countryside..etc) at the cost of flexibility. I followed a tour group twice and it has its pros and cons.
