I had the exact same experience with Undertale, and later with Breath of the Wild actually. With both games, people left and right have been calling it groundbreaking and whatever but it was so prevalent that I really didn’t want to get into it for a long time. And with both games, when I did finally get to them, I got pleasantly surprised and now hold them in very high regard, though BotW was much more immediately satisfying than Undertale - the latter really takes some time to get good, unless you’re charmed with all the Earthbound-risqué quirkiness from the very beginning, which I really wasn’t and it took me a while.

I really need get back to SaGa someday. I liked the first game, so it’d be nice to get those sexy Vita ports of Romancing SaGa someday.

Hope you don’t end up disappointed what with me praising if like that. I think it’s inportant to keep in mind that in general I enjoy open world games and don’t really have problems with them (at least from the ones I played). I also still stand by what I said earlier - even though it’s my favorite game in the Zelda series now, I wouldn’t say it’s this grand culmination of all things Zelda - the dungeons aren’t really that interesting in this game, nor is there really much delving into the whole messy lore behind the series. Though I do think you’ll appreciate the very Princess Mononoke vibe this game has, as well as the very well-told story. The rest really depends on how much the world sucks you in, I guess.

So yeah, now that I’m done with it, I hope to write bunches today!

Well if you feel like you want to bounce those ideas off of someone, you know where to find me.

In other news, finally beat Breath of the Wild and I can honestly say it has been one of the biggest gaming surprises I’ve ever had. Any expectations I had were completely obliterated and it is now very easily my favorite Zelda game.

Depends on which type of beta reader you want me to be! I’m open to any way that I can help, just think of the pros and cons of both approaches. Think about which perspective I might be a more valuable source of insight for

Sounds pretty solid. What happened that made the humans be on the brink of extinction?

Meanwhile, my writing has slowed down yet again because my brother had surprised me by giving me Pokémon Ultra Sun But I’m also really close to done with Zelda so here’s hoping I can do it!

Interestingly, a variation of that mechanic is used in RS1, although it isn't obvious that's what is going on and it just makes the boss appear to have much more hp than it actually does; it works much better in the Apollo fight, what with the storyline buildup and gooification.

Sounds very ambitious. Might take a while, but if you stick with it, you might just pull it off and the payoff could be very satisfying.

I’m still not very far in. Still developing the empire chapter, but then my chapters are a bit on the longer side, with various sub chapters in-between. But yeah, hope to speed up soon.

    Oh? Did your battery die?

Consistency is key. Though I imagine I’ll speed up considerably once I beat Zelda, which should happen this week. Ideally, I’d like to have my beta copy ready before the baby gets born.

At what stage are you with the ideas you mentioned? Still brainstorming?

Ooh, sounds good! Glad you found an opportunity to use your race! Looking forward to it.

My writing is going slowly, but it’s going along. I’m just happy that I’m writing at all tbh

I have other things to catch up with...

by Wolf Kanno on 04-09-2025 at 07:53 AM
I know I already have a lot on my plate, but I do want to finish a few other things besides writing projects and my various marathons.

I like to do gunpla and other mecha themed model kits, and I still have six more I need to finish. I have the old MG line of Gundam Wing Endless Waltz models from back in the early 2000s and I still need to put together the Tallgeese III to complete the set. I also recently picked up the EW version of Gundam Epyon from the same series because GW was

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit
