The game certainly isn't without its charm, I'll admit

Yeah, it is pretty stupid. The investigation segments really dragged for me as well, tbh

This is weird, because I love the Danganronpa series even though it also follows the formula of "investigate->trial", but it works so much better because it's much more dark and twisted (but still in a light way), which I think just works much more for stuff like that, and the trials themselves are much more action-packed.

I still kinda respect Ace Attorney for really making VNs a thing here. I just really don't get why the series the degree of love it does. The puns are what really kills me though.

Oh yes, it does drag, definitely. It could've all been paced much better, especially after the very balanced VIII. But alas. I also really felt that I missed out on a lot due to not having access to multiplayer.

I also think the first game was decent, but that last case was just waaaay too long for me. It really wore me down.

Ooh, that reminds me! I've actually beaten all the numbered DQ games (minus X). VIII was fantastic, IX was pretty cool but yeah, I don't really like that there's such a big focus on the post-game and multiplayer. Would've liked the system in the main game to be more involved! But I liked how the story went by the end a lot. I enjoyed the fact how this game seemed to be way more inspired by the Bible than the others.

Ugh, Phoenix Wright... I've managed to push through the first three games but then just gave up on Apollo Justice. I mostly just forced myself to play them because I know my brother wanted me to. I honestly don't get why they're so loved. And they just get more stupid as the series goes along. They do have their moments, though, with Trials and Tribulations actually having some very satisfying character moments (too bad the actual cases are insane kangaroo trials at this point)

All good games tbh Aside from RW maybe. I'm having a similar problem with Icewind Dale 2 - I do like the game, though, it's just that I've been playing it on and off and it's been taking forever to finish, and I can't move on to other games I'd like to play like the Witcher or Devil Suevivor 2, or heck, replaying SMTIV since I don't have Alocalypse yet.

I have actually played Nocturne in the past - I just got distracted and didn't finish it. It's a shame it wasn't made available on Vita since I feel the old school format of megaten really fits handhelds better, as they're easier to just pick up, grind a bit, and leave it for until you have time again.

But yeah, while I don't have much money to spare yet, I noticed some Polish auctions still sell Lucifer's Call for pretty damn cheap, actually. The Raidou games and Xenosaga are gonna be much more difficult to get since they never got released in Europe. But I'm hoping I can get the someday. Been in a really mega ten mood lately, tbh, but I also don't want to jump into any of those games since I know that if I do, I'll get sucked in and won't even touch the writing project :/

That's great It's always great have a variety of outlets. I've gotten back into composing, actually! And we also completed this huge 1500-piece jigsaw puzzle recently, so that was definitely an experience!

See, if you are doing those things and thinking about that, that's good. Don't beat yourself up over those things too much - just let yourself enjoy them!

Speaking of Xenosaga, once we get our apartment, Ill probably be reaquiring my old PS2, and taking my brother's WiiU, so I'll be able to play Xenoblade X, but I think it's also finally time I got the two missing Xenosaga, Nocturne, and the Raidou games. Especially the latter. Can't really do much justice to the source material in the fanfic if I haven't played half the games, can I

I totally get what you mean. I got tons of ideas while at work but when I actually get back home, I can't bring myself to actually write anything. Granted, this is mostly because sitting at my PC makes me think of work, which is also probably why I can't play Icewind Dale too much, which has led me to draw more.

Can't really say what the solution is, tbh. Letting go and allowing yourself to just relax could help you get back to any project you're thinking about with more energy, but then again, it could also make you procrastinate it forever. Fighting that procrastination is the hardest part for any creative individual, it it's also important to have fun.

How about this then. Bigger projects can be overwhelming, so how about in preparation for the bigger things you try to write some shorts? Like, really short. Flash fiction. If you try to write at least one per week, maybe writing will just become a habit for you and it'll be easier to move on to bigger projects? I find what really kills writing motivation the most is the relative lack of short-term satisfaction - do maybe you just need to make that satisfaction happen by establishing smaller goals at first?

It is. But I am kind of scared that we'll end up in a super empty apartment that we won't be able to finish because we'll be putting all our money into paying mortgage. It's a wild ride, to say the least.

And really, there's nothing wrong with being lazy now and again. I'm sure the spark to do something will come to you sooner or later!

Wife's started playing Chrono Cross by the way and she's kinda making me wanna replay it. She's enjoying the slightly non-linear thing so far.

Doing something, actually It's actually a pretty stressful time for us since we're buying an apartment and applying for mortgage, so that's a big investment and a big risk and we're still not sure it'll pay off. Things are looking good for now, but we'll see.

On the flip side, the stress has kind of helped me in the creative sense in that I have way less energy to play video games and did some drawing instead. Fleshed out some character concepts for my Devil Summoner fanfic and I should probably be posting some actual chapters of the thing in the coming days, so that should be exciting! As long as I actually have the time to write it, that is, as I'm pretty busy with Easter stuff right now.

I have other things to catch up with...

by Wolf Kanno on 04-09-2025 at 07:53 AM
I know I already have a lot on my plate, but I do want to finish a few other things besides writing projects and my various marathons.

I like to do gunpla and other mecha themed model kits, and I still have six more I need to finish. I have the old MG line of Gundam Wing Endless Waltz models from back in the early 2000s and I still need to put together the Tallgeese III to complete the set. I also recently picked up the EW version of Gundam Epyon from the same series because GW was

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit
