Also, I won't be using the Red Mage at all throughout most of the game. I'll be saving it for Ritz, even though I'm not a huge fan of how this job turned out in this game.

Yeah, tell me about it. I actually don't have a bishop planned at all, just a Templar with Bishop skills. Or do you think it's a waste of time to give him those skills? I'm still in the early stages of training him so I can turn that around.

Aside from that, there's a couple jobs I won't be using at all like Illusionists and Gadgeteers. The latter is pretty self-explanatory, while I just really don't like illusionists due to how slow they are and how weak their spells are compared to their price.

Also, just caught a goblin! Now I don't have to worry about them going extinct! Yay!

Now, just need to get a thundrake...

I at least hope we can agree that moogles make lame black mages

    Also, is Catch any good?

I hadn't, but then I saw my wife play. They're really your best bet if you want powerful magic. Not only do they get the advanced spells as alchemists and saves, but they're also the most powerful black and white mages when it comes to raw spell power, bar none. Sure, the Viera white mages are faster, but they won't heal you quite as much. And then there's the morpher that can be a beast if you take your time with it. Kinda like Gau

THe plan I have for alchemist is more pure offense, though they're still more versatile thanks to their access to items. I guess I'll go with white magic since I noticed the only other two classes I plan to have white magic with is summoner and blue Mage. So I figure another wm user would be more useful than another black mage

In FFTA news, I can't decide whether I should give my Sage black or white magic. On one hand, my Alchemist will be using black magic and the sage job requires White Mage skills anyway, but I'm also gonna give him one of the illusionist's abilities, so I'm gonna have to get him to learn some black magic anyway to unlock that class. Plus, don't the sage spells kinda feel like they go well together with White Magic?

Well, that's all different strokes then, I guess!

Idk, if you take something like Blinded by Light, it's relatively simple. First you have strings, slowly introducing the main harmony, then percussion and the horn with the main melody, all the while the strings do their thing. And then that builds up and you have a solo violin with the electric guitar and drums taking the main background role and then it has a really nice coda that segways nicely into the beginning again. Honestly, it's an incredibly well-structured battle theme and the orchestration couldn't be better. Lightning's theme is also fairly minimalistic with just the piano and strings throughout the track, and it really works.

As for the rest - well, style is one element which is just entirely subjective. Sakimoti and Hamauzu use big orchestrations. You don't like it. I do. They both still do really well with more minimalistic tracks, though.

I'm pretty sure you just dislike it by association :P

SEE, for me, I listened to the XIII OST way before I had the opportunity to play it. And I loved the hell out of it. To the point that I felt the game really didn't deserve the soundtrack that it got when I finally did get to play it.

Honestly, the only thing I don't like is that he's so reluctant to reuse others' themes, like in WoFF where he won't even use the fanfare, and that's a friggin' tribute game! Other than that I just love the impressionistic style that is so uncommon for video game soundtracks. I love the structural complexity of his tracks, as they're really well composed. Plus, he really utilizes leitmotifs really well.

But in the end, it's all subjective

I have other things to catch up with...

by Wolf Kanno on 04-09-2025 at 07:53 AM
I know I already have a lot on my plate, but I do want to finish a few other things besides writing projects and my various marathons.

I like to do gunpla and other mecha themed model kits, and I still have six more I need to finish. I have the old MG line of Gundam Wing Endless Waltz models from back in the early 2000s and I still need to put together the Tallgeese III to complete the set. I also recently picked up the EW version of Gundam Epyon from the same series because GW was

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit
