Yeah... I'm hoping my parents' financial situation gets better and maybe I'll get a PS4 for Xmas. Things aren't looking up though

I totally agree and I'm happy he made that decision.

That reminds me - I heard this piece of news that FFXV's first half is more open world, while the latter is more linear. Not to the point of XIII-linear, but just more focused on the story. This makes sense, IMO, because as much fun as I had in games like Morrowind, it really would have helped immensely had there been some more focus as the story progressed. I mention this because I've heard many people complain that No Man's Sky is so overwhelmingly huge.

Wow. Drama always sucks, but yay for all the rest! Too bad you couldn't get into too much detail at the panel, but it's still great that fun was had by all

Oh right! How did that go for you?

Yeah, well, what can you do. We get good music in DQ and that's all that matters. It's a shame we're not getting the best possible product here, but we'll make do, I think.

So, anything interesting you're playing right now?

I just swung by the first time in forever and saw your birthday message to me from several months ago. I'm not sure what was more startling: that someone had wished me happy birthday here years after my last regular activity, or that I still have hair in my user profile picture.

From what I heard, no, it's rather a licensing issue. As it turns out, Koichi Sugiyama is actually a total dick. On top of being the Japanese equivalent of a Holocaust denier (he says this didn't happen, basically), he's in charge of this organization that is responsible for all those music license deals and in general being stingy as all hell. They just couldn't secure a contract and he believes that the synth works better for the games (which I completely disagree with, since the synths he uses were never good and I feel his music loses a lot of its appeal when it;s not performed live).

In general, I'm miffed that the reason is political and not technical, really, because if it were just size limitations there would be a chance we'd get the orchestral version as DLC, but no cigar. Damn, a man can compose awesome music and still be kind of a dick. I get the feeling Western Dragon Quest fans aren't that respected in Japan.

So apparently they're replacing the fully orchestral soundtrack of DQVII 3DS into MIDI for the localized version. I am friggin' devastated

Please don't let them do this to VIII

Speaking of IV, I totally forgot about the randomized stats thing until you mentioned it again. Do you know if that was carried over to the DS version? I could imagine how that would suck for anyone wanting to take on Proto-Babil.

I have other things to catch up with...

by Wolf Kanno on 04-09-2025 at 07:53 AM
I know I already have a lot on my plate, but I do want to finish a few other things besides writing projects and my various marathons.

I like to do gunpla and other mecha themed model kits, and I still have six more I need to finish. I have the old MG line of Gundam Wing Endless Waltz models from back in the early 2000s and I still need to put together the Tallgeese III to complete the set. I also recently picked up the EW version of Gundam Epyon from the same series because GW was

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit
