That reminds me - they don't really rerelease GBA games on the 3DS eshop. They do it on WiiU. It makes me wonder, because I feel that the 3DS should be able to easily handle those games. What gives?

Yeah. Well, at least they rereleased Red and Blue on the 3DS. Maybe the future games will follow!

    I absolutely would!

I'm not sure in what capacity. I'm not particularly technology savvy. If it came to organising everyone's recordings and putting them into a listenable format, I'd probably struggle. I'd definitely be on board though!

Considering its Nintendo's biggest cash cow, you'd think they'd cut the prices juuuuust a little bit
  5. View Conversation
Oh yeah, they do. The old cartridges also have the problem of the internal batteries running out, and gold and silver used that for saves. And yet they still cost so much. Just goes to show how powerful nostalgia is among Pokemon fans.

That would be AWESOME! I'd be happy to share advanced training tips (EVs and IVs and stuff like that) and we get tournaments on EoFF from time to time! Though we probably won't be able to battle until gen 6, because Nintendo have terminated online services from gen 4 and 5 some time ago, and gen 7 is coming out in November, so who knows if they won't close the Internet for XY and ORAS until then. I know I'll be getting my copy of Pokemon Sun for Christmas and I'm super excited because Ivs been avoiding any information (aside from name of region, professor, and what the three starters look like) like the plague, so I'm hoping to get that same rush from it as I did as a kid

Btw, will you be checking out the remakes as well? They're all pretty different from the originals. Fire Red/Leaf Green in gen 3 don't really change too much, they mostly tweak the mechanics and add the option of a female character, but Heart Gold/Soul Silver in gen 4 and Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire in gen 6 are noticeably different. Also, Black and white have sequels that have some of the coolest content in the series. For example, there's this tournament where you can battle every single gym leader and champion in the series.

Hmm... In a way, I guess? It took away some things that made people love gen 2 (day/night cycle, visiting other regions in the post-game, etc.), but the generation was still popular enough, with a whole new generation of people actually starting with this and having a huge nostalgia for it. The fandom in general remembers it fondly. Diamond and Pearl have it way worse because they were kinda too similar to the previous gen while having problems of its own in pacing and the speed of movement. Gen 5 is praised for its story, but many people feel it has the worst Pokemon designs (I happen to love them, but that's a matter of taste). It really wasn't until gen 6 that everyone was finally happy with Pokemon again.

So Ruby and Sapphire is more like and end of an era, with a large chunk of the old fandom being cut off, with a bunch of newbies coming in, while gen 4 is the black sheep, while gen 5 is... controversial.

Yeah, I hope you can get further in this time too The later generations may have some problems (like being increasingly easy to the point that really, no effort is required to beat the gen 6 games), but they're constantly refining the Pokemon formula and there's a lot to love beyond gold/silver/crystal. Shame a lot of people quit Pokemon right around that time.

Oh right - the male Nidoran evolution family are some of my fav Pokemon! So have it stick around and you'll get a decent poke for end-game

    You didn't get Pikachu?

Well, hope you get around to playing Silver at least! Gen 2 was my absolute favorite until gen 5 came along. It's a vast improvement over the first games and I've spent so, so many hours on it...

Also! Remember the game doesn't find after the Pokemon League. The post game in gen 1 is pretty weak because basically all that's left after is catching Mewtwo and any other legendaries you haven't caught before. And if you're a collector, you're gonna want to catch them all here - or as many as you can - do that you can trade them into Silver. That game still has pretty much all the gen 1 Pokemon natively in it, but you won't get the legendaries from it there or the starters.
Oh, and you know there's this exploit that lets you get Mew? It's really the only way to get it. I think there was supposed to be an event to distribute it that never happened.

I have other things to catch up with...

by Wolf Kanno on 04-09-2025 at 07:53 AM
I know I already have a lot on my plate, but I do want to finish a few other things besides writing projects and my various marathons.

I like to do gunpla and other mecha themed model kits, and I still have six more I need to finish. I have the old MG line of Gundam Wing Endless Waltz models from back in the early 2000s and I still need to put together the Tallgeese III to complete the set. I also recently picked up the EW version of Gundam Epyon from the same series because GW was

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit
