Yeah, it's crazy. It's like the 90s again. Everyone at work is talking about Pokemon, and I'm sitting here waiting for it to be officially released in Poland because downloading it on iOS from another country's App Store is more trouble than it's worth. Also, I can't wait until they update it with more Pokemon because the first 151 seem like a small number to fill the whole world with Pokemon.

Will you be playing later generations after blue? How far are you in? What's your party?

Does the release of Pokemon Go have anything to do with you playing Blue?

Oh yeah. Though my fav work of his is still XII (and BD kinda, but he's just one of a group of artists there, even if he's the main art director) because of all the colors he uses there, Vagrant Story is fantastic for just being so different, while still being dark and serious. It's also amazing how the art style is remembered very fondly by many gamers, despite being filled with fetishy, BDSM-related and homierotic elements (let's face it, it totally is). It's kind of awesome that this stuff was so endorsed by gamers.

I think the game that most reminds of his VS style is the PSP remake of Tactics Ogre (I know the original had a different direction, despite also being done by Yoshida). There's this washed, brownish palette and a sketchbook-like atmosphere to the portraits.

Oh man, Yoshida should totally just do a graphic novel. I mean, not only are his character designs great, but his paintings are just so beautiful I can't help but think the games he works on just can't do his art justice, even though they really take advantage of it!

No, not yet. We're still in the early game. But yeah, I love all the callbacks that I managed to spot. After the weirdness that was FFXIII it's so great to actually play a new game that really feels like Final Fantasy despite being different.

Also, the art is done by Yoshida, and you can really tell by some of the outfits. The armor I just got almost looks like the knoght's armor from Bravely Default, and Ania got a nice robe with intricate details on it and Yoshida's trademark Zettai Ryouriki look, with high boots/stocking and a very short skirt. I just love the art direction. It's not as good or consistent as in XII, but it's really hard to make a game look bad when Yoshida's in charge of the artwork. He's definitely my favorite of the FF artists.

Yeah. Though technically, they get "tamed", I guess?

Anyway, don't know if I'll ever come back to this to check the other routes. I'll play DS2 eventually, but for now I guess I'll just focus on FFXIV. And then I might go back to trying to beat Strange Journey, I guess.

Oh, and yesterday in XIV I squeed when I heard the FFII battle theme during one of the training missions I love those little touches.

I heard it still does if you don't hit the right flags. Gin has to be alive and you have to beat the devas. if you don't do either of them, Yuzu's 8th day still has a bad ending.

And apparently, there's only 8th days for Amane, Yuzu and Naoya's endings, though you get two different 8th days for Naoya depending on some prior choice in his route.

Beattie game today. So Babel was actually much easier than Belberith, thank goodness. For the last portion all demons disappeared - including the Black Frost I used in its first form, so I was kinda worried that I only had three party members. But the final form turned out to be a total wimp, so that wasn't too scary.

Anyway, the scenario ended with a message from Metatron, I believe, saying I did a good thing by relinquishing that power but I'm still dangerous, so if I step out of line, he'll come over and smurf me up.

Also, turns out no 8th day for Gin's route. Turns out they only added it for specific routes. Which makes sense because this ending actually gave good closure to pretty much everything. Plus - how was I supposed to keep playing with the demons gone?

Beat Belberith today. But apparently, there's also Babel now and it's a battle?

But yeah... Remember I still have the 8th day ahead of me...

I have other things to catch up with...

by Wolf Kanno on 04-09-2025 at 07:53 AM
I know I already have a lot on my plate, but I do want to finish a few other things besides writing projects and my various marathons.

I like to do gunpla and other mecha themed model kits, and I still have six more I need to finish. I have the old MG line of Gundam Wing Endless Waltz models from back in the early 2000s and I still need to put together the Tallgeese III to complete the set. I also recently picked up the EW version of Gundam Epyon from the same series because GW was

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit
