They do, and I really wish this series could last longer! I love the lighter tone it has as it really fits the characters - the Gunmen were always very fun to watch whenever they showed up. Though I heard the execs apparently hated them? Which is just baffling.

So we’ve finished season 8! And while I understand the frustration with Mulder being out of focus, watching it for the first time knowing that the new movie and seasons 10 and 11 again allowed me to really appreciate what this season set out to achieve. Overall, I liked it a lot. More than season 7, definitely, and probably more than seasons 1 and 2 as well, but it’s still not the series peak that was to me seasons 3 to 6. While I missed the more comedic episodes - of which there were none this season - I liked both the introduction of Doggett and Reyes, and since I know Mulder and Scully will come back to the center stage later, I feel like I can appreciate them for what they are. Doggett especially was quite cool, with a very solid arc throughout and in general being far more likable than I expected. Other than that, the entire series was super tense and I loved the little nostalgic nods to what the series has been over the years, interspersed with big new elements, signifying a big change in the series. I also feel that whenever Mulder was on screen, he was utilized very well, and Scully’s pregnancy was another very strong point.

So now I enter season nine a bit apprehensive. On the one hand, I really like the new opening sequence, and I love how apparently Skinner is listed as main cast now, so I’m very happy to see more of him because I am in love with him so hard. The season premiere was also decent, really upping the stakes. Then again, Mulder being pretty much completely gone this time around and Scully being very out of focus is very worrying. And while I enjoy Doggett and Reyes, I can’t help but feel sad about this changing of the guard, even though I have the comfort of knowing that this is temporary. Oh, and Cart Elwes was a very welcome surprise when it comes to casting - I’ve always loved him as an actor and was not expecting him here!

I’m the meantime, we’ve also started watching the Lone Gunmen, so at least we have that to keep us grounded while we go through this very different season.

    Have you seen this, btw?

I am very, very picky when it comes to modern anime. Honestly, most of the recent ones that I like can best be described as “arthouse”, and Tatami Galaxy was definitely that. I’ll definitely want to watch Devilman Crybaby eventually, but that’ll have to wait because I don’t watch anime alone, and the wife is currently not... in a state to be watching excessively gory anime

I know, I’ve read about those. But I have heard that Devilman has influenced SMT to a degree and then there’s also the fact that, apparently, this thing is really good (it’s directed by the guy who did Tatami Galaxy which was excellent, so I have great faith in it) and actually deals with a lot of similar themes.

Btw, have you seen Devilman Crybaby? I’ve heard a lot of good things and am kinda interested. Someone said something like it’s the closest we’ve ever gotten to a good SMT anime lol

Well then, now you know what you can add to your inevitable fiction backlog

That’s great! Honestly, you can’t really read too much - everything you read matters

Don’t worry, I’m the same way Not only that, money’s tight so far, so it will be a while until I get to the series. Give you more than enough time to prepare too :P (Also, the Witcher books have fan translations available online for free, just an fyi )

I’ll happily dive in, but why not make this a trade deal, hmm? I get into Souls, you get into the Witcher?

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit
