Accidently huh O.o that sounds awfully convenient but I can kinda see how that might occur. Interesting though. Kinda not too surprising to hear they exacerbate tensions like that but still feels pretty irksome ngl. What was the predominant religion in England at the time they were prejudiced against Catholicism?

And yeah it's not hard to imagine why Ireland and Russia kinda struggle back and forth between those ends. A study in human cycles indeed >.<

Do you know the Final Fantasy Peasant? He is a nice guy but even though he uses official sources he moves too close to theory territory.

Another problem that I have with the plot is the fact that Brahne's turn is not actually explained on a responsibility level except for very slight hints about pushes that are not fully elaborated on and all. Many people think Kuja just made use of her grief, negative feelings et cetera and basically naturally influenced her and like Kuja said, giving her greed a push. Apparently many think there was no evidence of Kuja using any other methods for that "push". But the problem here is that her corruption happened already shortly after he met her and became so extreme which led her to even sacrifice her daughter is just such an extreme that I wonder how people think there is no evidence for it. She did not care for her daughter up until that greed left her. After Cleyra she even wanted her to be killed for being useless and also for having stolen the royal crystal. Even if you "become evil", it is just not believable that you have no problem killing your own people unless you have no morals and we knew Brahne was a good a caring person before so there were some. That is why it strikes me odd that people think Kuja pushed her by just providing her with what she needed instead of using some magic. And I do not mean mind-control but just something that fuels her emotions and making lher a moral void. Any other thing is truly unbelievable because if Kuja without powers and only with advice and spells was enough for her then she is not even close to being as good as Garnet thinks, and as said, we already saw in the end that this is not true.

This is why it bothers me to have all information I could get but narrations still not telling enough. It only can make sense this way if she is so good but apparently so many do not even consider that.

Yeah that sounds like a good way to describe it. On that note I'm curious to hear if there's something about the history of English colonialism that you found fascinating that you'd like to share? ^^

And yeah, as much as I want to think that way I don't think the passion for creating could pull me through a day-to-day life of feeling completely unvalued despite overworking, and feeling on the verge of being thrown out into the streets at any time. Not long term at least. Maybe I'm setting myself up for a fall by assuming anywhere else is going to be better about this, but I hope not >.<

It's still interesting though, and I can't say I'm not digging it. It's just different, despite most of the elements feeling similar. It is to be expected, though, and I feel this is a story that really didn't need to be told, but it doesn't feel like a cash grab. I genuinely feel that they were doing it for the art, and really wanted to expand on what's already there. The end result just comes across as a little weird, though.

Yeah I figured, while I had pretty bad history classes in highschool (think basically data upon data upon data) I've kinda been wanting to read up on history a bit, at least in spare time if nothing else. Funny to hear about that record from Rome, I'm not exactly surprised but it is interesting to see how closely the concerns mirror our own right now. That's the kind of thing real fascinating about history, realizing that you're not special, that societies have been here before and what you think might be good ideas have already been tried in the past and failed. There's probably no better way to break ignorant/naive idealism than that.

I've been studying Software Engineering myself. Tbh the field I actually wanted to break into was game design but at the time I finished highschool I was too scared to voice that to my father so I just went with the next best thing under the rationale that it's pretty close, and that it's a field I've dabbled in a bunch and I'm generally good at. By now I'm much less inclined to actually aim for a place in the game industry given all the horror stories surrounding it. Regarding Software Engineering though, I could probably continue to pursue it but I don't really want to, so I'm taking a break. A few other factors playing into it as well, but long story short, I'm looking for a job atm aiming to actually be self-reliant for once. Currently hoping to get a position in customer service at least temporarily.

So I’m playing Baldud’s gate: Siege of Dragonspear and there’s something very weird about interquels made years later like this. The only similar thing I can think of is the abysmal FFIV interlude. This looks to be much better, thankfully, but it’s still weird. On the surface everything feels familiar, but then the characters returning from 1, which had flat characters that didn’t talk muvh, now have more involved dialogue and stories and even romances, much like in BG2. Its very strange.

Also, this is the game where fans lost their trout because an incredibly minor one-off NPC will reveal to you she’s trans if you steer the conversation juuuuust right. They proceeded to lambast both this game and the rereleases of the other two simply out of spite. Just in case anyone would think the Eva fandom is the only smurfed up one. I think there may just be a larger problem with nerd culture in general.

Oh that's a cool minor, though also one that feels like it doesn't have much in terms of career options? Maybe I'm wrong. But it is an interesting subject, and I'm kinda wondering how much of our culture and values is still in line with what was established in those times. Also good to hear your student debts aren't that bad, though sucks for your friends >.< heard quite a few horror stories there. Though I think America's moving away from that, if slowly? Not sure how much it'll fix though.

I see ^^ well a good thing to realize before you dedicate yourself too hard. Kind of struggling with that now myself. If I may ask, what did you end up changing to?

Hmm so did you do a CompSci degree?

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep

by Wolf Kanno on 01-30-2020 at 08:17 PM
You know the drillÖ

I mentioned this in my Chain of Memories entry for my Top 100 List, but Kingdom Hearts and I have a really awkward history with each other. This is a franchise that has always been more of a guilty pleasure for me than something I actively love. Funny enough, itís not even the basic premise that bothers me. While Final Fantasy meets Disney mash-up sounds contrived, KH has always managed to make it work since this

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra

by Wolf Kanno on 12-30-2019 at 09:56 PM
Top 100 List Blah blah blahÖ. I ended up re-writing this entry because the original was a little more bitter and more like just a genuine rant than a review. With that said, a little backstory is in order.

Continuing my trend of snubbed entries in franchises, we now come back to a series that was very near and dear to me. At this point in time, the story of
