Well, we'll see. I'm actually kinda considering replaying the original. But for now, I'm kinda to busy with other stuff anyway, so I have to wait regardless.

well, they're poorly optimised, to say the least. I have a fairly high-end comp and FFXIII-2 has some insane slowdown

Considering SE's track record with PC ports, I;m not too excited

I'm actually considering working on both projects in tandem. We'll see. In the end, I ended up spednig the whole day yesterday worldbuilding in my head and I'm pretty hooked on the idea. Think it has potential. If you'd like, I can ramble about it to you in detail over mognet!

And idk, the Vita feels pretty powerful. There's games with PS3 level graphics that run great on it, so I think it might have been poor optimisation on Konami's part. Considering XII's world is still kinda segmented, I could still see it working on the system, even if it were to be slightly graphically and performance-wise inferior to the PS4 version. I'd take a hanheld FFXII over a graphically superior one any day of the week.

Btw, I've been writing bit by bit and I still hope to finish my draft zero by the end of the year.

But I've also been having this weird idea in the back of my head. A fantasy novel that's at the same time a more traditional fantasy (as in, taking place in a completely fantasy world) while being its own thing (as in, I have visions of a world that's completely out there; no elves or dwarves, just something completely alien), but kind of the main purpose I can feel there is for it in the back of my head is to make a comment on society, the human condition, and all those other pretentious idea I am so fixated on.

As you can tell, though, it's all pretty vague and I really want it to stay that way for now. I might sit down to it and pants it once I'm done with this trilogy.

Was it really so much to ask for FFXII to be on the Vita as well?

Can't wait to play that myself. Though who knows when that will be...

So I started this Polish game, Regalia: Of Men and Monarchs. It's a Tactical JRPG with a gorgeous, super cute art style, and from the looks of it, it's not serious in the slightlest. It's pretty self-aware as an RPG and has tons of shout outs (like, once you're given food and your three responses are quoted verbatim from the scene in FFVII where Cloud eats stuff at the Wall Market), and it's nice to play something that's just not seriously at all for a change.

    Some cool things I noted:
    - It has a social link-like mechanic, with characters giving you specific benefits for ranking up their friendships. And a calendar system, so you're constantly on a timer, and have to fulfil quests within a timer to progress. So time management is a factor. Taking inspiration from a good place, tbh.
    - There's a town building segment right from the start and it ties heavily into that timer mechanic I mentioned.
    - Apparently, there's no such thing as individual levels in this game - there's only a party level, so no characters will get left behind, ever. I imagine this can help reduce grinding.
    - Also, apparently there's no healing during battles and the only way you can really mitigate damage from enemies is by employing shields that kind of give you an additional pool of HP over your regular HP.

So far so good, and I'm fairly hooked. We'll see how good it is in the end.

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit
