Hey so making the Ardyn thread has reminded me that we were planning an FF Villain talk that never got recorded. Perhaps we should fix that one day

I think the one thing that can be argued was changed for the worse is that the vocal version of Somnus no longer plays during your entire visit to Insomnia. Granted, the new arrangement fits what they added, but the original choice was so perfect. Still, I feel that if you liked the vanilla version in the first place, the Royal upgrade should make it even better for you

So I beat Episode Ardyn yesterday. Still have Comrades and the post-game left, but I’m slowly but surely beating the end of my FFXV journey. Honestly, it really was worth the wait for me, especially considering his much more complete the game is now

Tell me about it. I had to delete a ton of stuff to even fit the game on my PC. Gonna have to delete it right after I’m done with it lol.

Eh, I get why Soul Hackers wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea. I liked it a lot but it has definitely not aged well and it can be a bit hard to get hooked on it sometimes. It was one of the biggest inspirations behind my fanfic idea (which will still see the light of day in some way, shape or form someday), so it did definitely leave a mark. DDS is amazing though, absolutely one of my favs. I’m low-key hoping Nocturne HD means we’ll be getting more remasters of the PS2 megaten games, so fingers crossed for DDS and the Raidou games specifically!

I still need to get into SMT2. I know it’s not hard to find, but I’m just having a very hard time finding the time to actually get into it.

Yeah, a lot of the exposition on the emperor and how he’s the daemon stalking the fortress is done through Chapter 13 Verse 2 - which is honestly a better Episode Gladio than Episode Gladio. It also further expands on Ravus which, combined with Episode Ignis - really helps complete his character arc and make his story really tragic in a meaningful way. Right in this whole thing I just wrote is the biggest flaw of FFXV - the story is incredibly splintered piecing it all together in a way that will leave a proper impact is hard even when it is finally complete (though it’s still much easier).

But yeah, I also liked chapter 13 for the change of pace it brought. The Ring of the Lucii is also super great and I loved playing around with it. Looking forward to playing with adult Noctis today!

So now that Iím back from my vacation, I got back into FFXV and am almost done. Will probably get into more detail in the thread but the legendarily hated chapter 13 didnít really bother me at all, but thatís likely because theyíre actually worked on improving it a lot. World of Ruin here I come!

The way these crossovers work, you know we’d still get teen Tatsuyuki, right?

Anyway, it’s been fun so far and I’m reminded that I actually liked the first Q much more than I realized. Even though I haven’t played 5, it’s still cool to be around the phantom thieves and it’s so great to finally see the P3 female protagonist get some time in the limelight. It feels to me the characters are less flanderized this time, but I haven’t met most of the cast yet so I can’t compare really. The premise is definitely slightly more interesting this time around. Gameplay-wise, it feels more streamlined, which I guess is both good and bad. I liked how the first Q brought back sons of the more cumbersome mechanics from Persona 1, like having to pay for healing - now you’re just healed when you leave the dungeon, but then I also don’t feel like I’m swimming I cash so maybe they balanced it out? Also, after dividing physical attacks in Q they’ve come Back to merging them all into one, which is lame. But then now we also have nuclear and mind elements again so I guess it evens out. Hama and Mudo are also no longer absolute game breakers - justified by the inclusion of Eiha and Kouha. Oh yeah, and all-out attacks now work like in regular Persona in that you need to knock out all enemies - in the first Q having more characters boosted increased the likelihood of one just triggering randomly. All that said, the first boss is extremely hard, so it’s not like they completely sucked out the challenge - it just manifests differently.

Lol so yeah Q is definitely an interesting little sub-series and I’d recommend it if you’re into the series in general. Yeah, we both crave that old Persona love, but we also both know they won’t do anything with Tadashi’s characters ever again so all that’s left is to just enjoy what we have. Glad to hear you’re in a MegaTen mood! It seems like a good time to be a series fan.

So I’m on vacation now, with no means of finishing XV, but I was given Persona Q2 as a gift, which is neat. One thing that I found super interesting is that the beginning cutscene had a butterfly in it, which I’d ordinarily assume references Lavenza because the 5 cast has the focus here, but then a piece of the original Persona 1 motif played and I realized that this time they’re actually most likely saying this is Philemon. A nice touch imo. Always liked it when they remember old Persona exists.

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep

by Wolf Kanno on 01-30-2020 at 08:17 PM
You know the drillÖ

I mentioned this in my Chain of Memories entry for my Top 100 List, but Kingdom Hearts and I have a really awkward history with each other. This is a franchise that has always been more of a guilty pleasure for me than something I actively love. Funny enough, itís not even the basic premise that bothers me. While Final Fantasy meets Disney mash-up sounds contrived, KH has always managed to make it work since this

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Xenosaga Episode III: Also Sprach Zarathustra

by Wolf Kanno on 12-30-2019 at 09:56 PM
Top 100 List Blah blah blahÖ. I ended up re-writing this entry because the original was a little more bitter and more like just a genuine rant than a review. With that said, a little backstory is in order.

Continuing my trend of snubbed entries in franchises, we now come back to a series that was very near and dear to me. At this point in time, the story of
