To be fair, only the third one is really open world. And it's still kind of like Xenoblade, in that it's divided into a number of large, open-world sections. Granted, they're much larger than in Xenoblade, but the simile fits. I've also noticed there aren't really any "bring 20 bear asses" quests. Like I stated before, it's like every sidequest actually has meaning and is pretty unique.

Still, I'm more sharing my observations than really trying to convince you to play it or anything I still stand by my statement that it's really optimal to read the books first and then play the games in order, because the games are a follow-up. And reading seven books takes time

Reading what bothers you about open worlds, I feel you might actually enjoyed the Witcher 3's take on it. I especially recommend playing it like I am right now, which is by turning off the minimap. The environments are hand-crafted and there's really enough unique landmarks to really go on. The exclamation points on quest givers appear only if you get close enough to see their names, and the question marks on the main map won't distract you if you don't have your minimap on. Out of all the game's I've played, I think it reminds me the most of Dragon Quest VIII's world. Dungeon design is pretty weak so far, sadly.

You could just let it go and not organize them

Well that sounds great! Can't wait to experience them for myself! And yay for drag queen bars XD It's funny how you mention the Sun Arcana as while I'll agree that it was great in P3, I kinda hated it in P4? Both of them, really. No matter which one you chose, they just both felt super annoying to me. And you know, the moment I saw the Death confidant in the trailers, I thought "I have a feeling Wolf Kanno might like this person" and I was right, even though that was just a dumb hunch

And yeah, the Witcher 3 has plenty of design choices that are just so brilliant. Of course, it has its share of flaws, but the level of detail and polish this game has is astounding. Not to mention the locales look even more Polish than in the first game (and especially the second, which looked way more generic, sadly) and I just can't get enough of this countryside and weather.

One thing I really love about the Witcher 3 is the sidequests. None of the sidequests so far has been a throwaway thing - they're all fully voiced and directed, and with each you can actually feel that this is something that has consequences for the town and it feels like you're actually helping then. All questgivers feel like they're actually people - they talk to you a lot and you get a sense of who they are as a person organically rather than the typical Bioware tactic of "now let me tell you of my dark and troubled past, stranger"

Oh I'm at the end of August so we're not too far apart!

I like Yusuke a lot and Futara I already like more than I was anticipating. Ann too. Overall the cast has pleasantly surprised me

Also the fortune teller lady is my gf now :3

I like it overall but the amount of free time they take away from me is immensely annoying. How about you?

Probably gonna have to make a new one myself once I play all the things I want to play, as I expect P5 and FFXV to be at least in my top 100, if not top 25. P5 will probably make top 5 easily. And it looks like the Witcher 3 has already beaten Xenoblade. Never imagined this would happen. Something reallly bad would have to happen to prevent that, really.

Games tha are distracting me from playing other games...

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit
