To be honest, it’s not that I was more excited about him than anyone else, since I’m excited about a lot in the book. It’s just that I’ve spent some time with that first perspective and it’s really cool to finally see a different face of the world take shape.

I am perfectly okay with the fact that Hamauzu is not everyone’s cup of tea. I greatly appreciate him from an analytical perspective and can see he’s trying to implement more artistic, forward thinking elements to his music, which I feel is a big step in making video game music more varied and artistic in general, but I do realize this comes at the cost of some accessibility. It’s the same issue with the Breath of the Wild soundtrack - it’s phenomenal on an artistic level, but if you’re coming in expecting the energy and catchy melodies of previous Zelda’s, you’re gonna be disappointed (and many people are)

I’m also excited because I started writing the part of my story with the young emperor protagonist. I’m a bit worried I may end up having to drop the other POVs from this book and split it into separate things, though I’d love it if it were possible to keep this way since I feel it helps me paint a more comprehensive picture of the world. But he’s been delightly proud and bitchy so far.

    It is very pretty

I remember it being pretty good. But then there were also some pieces that annoyed me. Loved the whale song at the beginning tho

So how’s stuff? I got a bit of my writing flow back, so I hope to make decent progress soon. I’d love it if I could have a draft that’s serviceable to betas by summer, just so I can take a break while you all read it while I worry about welcoming the baby

Oh yeah, it’s definitely a good thing. I know I still have a ways to go, but so far Zelda’s world feels like it’s exactly as it needs to be.

That’s the only game I’ve actually beaten in the series, though I used an emulator and the version I played was the Wonderswan Color version. It was weird that it had GBA level graphics, but the sounds were still standard GB 4 bits

So have you dipped your toes into SaGa yet? I’m still stuck in the middle of Breath of the Wild, though I do get the feeling that it might actually be shorter than most open world RPGs I’ve played.

I can’t listen now, but I know there by Hamauzu and I love them.

Although at this moment I’m kinda obsessed with the BotW soundtrack.

Oh don’t get me wrong, there’s tons of countries and name dropping in my world too, it’s just that I don’t really want to go ahead and visualize it on a map since I feel that would kinda limit me too much and the world would end up just being smaller because of it.

The only SaGa game I beat was the first one, though I really want to get the Romancibg SaGa remastered for Vita. Those look real nice

I’m taking the Sapkowski map in that I’m not drawing a map at all. I have a very rough idea of the world’s general layout and some key details, but that’s in. I do plan to put that rough outline somewhere in the book, though, since it’s kind of thematically important. Had a bit of a problem with place names, but I kind of have a running theme now if naming countries after musical scales, and it’s not just limited to the classical European ones either.

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Arc the Lad II

by Wolf Kanno on 03-27-2018 at 10:53 PM
You know the drill by now...

*******************************************************************************

One of my all time favorite publishers in the 90s for video games was Working Designs. It was a company that actually tried to get a lot of cool JRPGs released in the West long before the actual JRPG boom in the last years of the decade. I've already spoken about their most high profile title they ever worked on, Lunar: The Silver Star Story,

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Final Fantasy III

by Wolf Kanno on 03-07-2018 at 08:10 PM
Blah blah blah Top 100 blah blah blah too many good games to list. Blah blah blah, games that weren't good enough for my list but still excellent nonetheless.

*******************************************************************************

Of the Classic series within Final Fantasy, FFIII was the last one for me to play, partly cause I didn't emulate very often and partly because I had hoped SE would come to their senses and re-release this title.

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: I am Setsuna

by Wolf Kanno on 02-23-2018 at 06:38 AM
So I did my Top 100 last year, and this year, I'm focusing on a few entries that didn't make the cut for one reason or another. I'll start off by saying that most of the games mentioned in this blog series are all worth playing, they simply just haven't enraptured me enough to place them on my List. I started with Demon's Souls, and i have about 24 more entries to go. I know I said it would be like four or five, but giving myself some time to think about it made me realize how many great games I

My Top 100's Lost but not Forgotten: Demon's Souls

by Wolf Kanno on 01-22-2018 at 03:23 AM
So as many people know, last year I did my Top 100 Games list, but as usual, there were a lot of games I loved that just didn't make the mark for one reason or another. I didn't really want to make a thread about it though, and figured the Blog would suit it better because there is likely only five or six games I wish to highlight here. I also feel annoyed I never use the Blog feature as much since it feels like a better platform for these types of discussions. In addition to these blogs, I do plan

Mononoke Hime

by Wolf Kanno on 11-08-2017 at 01:25 AM

A few days ago, I went to a midnight showing of Princess Mononoke at the Esquire Theater downtown. The very same theater I went to watch it the first time back in 1999 during it's initial release in the States. At that time, I was an avid anime fan who would consume whatever I could find as the medium was only in the beginning phases of it's explosive popularity in the 2000s, so the prospect of being able to watch an anime flick in an actual movie
