For me it’s pretty much the other way around. I played Dimensions, FFVI, FFV, FFT and the Chaos Rings games on my phone, but I just can’t stay committed to Record Keeper, Brave Exvius, Kingdom Hearts χ and SMT Dx2. I think it’s those constant reminders of the gacha lotteries, the endlessness of the content, and the repetition that just break the immersion for me

I’ve yet to try Dimensions 2, though I’m pretty apprehensive about it since they seem to have shifted to a more mobile-like format for this game. Dimensions 1 was delightfully an old school FF on phones and I’m just really not into the format most mobile games take around now

Yeah I’ve seen it, Sephex has been going on and on about it. The footage is very well made, though I’m always kind of miffed that whenever people talk about Chrono Break, they kinda forget that Chrono Cross also happened and that makes me sad

Btw, dunno if you’ve heard about it, but some people made a mod to FFVI PC to make it look much closer to Amano’s artwork, i.e. sprites are edited to match his designs, and the whole palette is far more muted to make it look more bleak. Imo, looks pretty interesting and I might try a playthrough if that someday.

... okay the Hierophant confidant in P5 is now my favorite social link in the series. Damn that one hit.

Btw, have you played Persona Q? Is it any more than just P3 and P4 fanservice?

So ever since I started the Sun Confidant I can press demons for multiple item / money drops during Hold Up... but this has the kinda hilarious side effect of allowing me to always still extort money or an item from a shadow and *then* wreck it to bits with an All Out Attack, instead of it being a choice. Is this intentional? It does make you feel like a major dick if nothing else; except against those demons that are a total ass to recruit, against those it's karmic justice.

Yeah I think the thing I like the most about Suikoden so far is how human all the conflict is. A lot of the conflict in this world is derived from real human flaws rather than some contrived plot and that’s great. I feel that a lot of politically focused stories concentrate more on backstabbing and masterminds playing speed chess, but here it’s like, people are well-meaning but communicating all of that effectively is next to impossible. Conflict ensues. And there’s something incredibly real about it,

Also, people not banging leading to problems happened in 1 as well. Like, sure, Windy was a power-hungry witch, but what she really wanted deep down is for Barbarossa to love her for who she is, not because of a spell or her resemblance to his dead wife. So that’s twice now that sex could have saved entire countries in Suikoden.

Thank you! I hope you're well!

So Jowy did something bad and now I’m mad because Anabelle would definitely have survived if she and Viktor had boned instead of being all coy about their feelings for each other

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Suikoden IV Part 2 ~ Suikoden Tactics

by Wolf Kanno on 06-17-2019 at 06:25 AM

So in my last blog, I talked about the black sheep numbered entry of the Suikoden franchise, Suikoden IV. Today, we're going to look at Rhapsodia, better known as Suikoden Tactics in the West. Tactics is a gaiden title that serves as both prequel/sequel side story to Suikoden IV. What makes it really standout is that the game is no longer a turn-based RPG about collecting 108 heroes, but instead a Tactical Turn Based RPG a la Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire

My Top 100"s Lost but Not Forgotten: Suikoden IV ~ Part 1

List, blah blah. Didn't make it, blah blah.

I feel I have a theme going here. Like the BoF1 entry, anyone who took a quick glance of my list will know I'm a pretty big Suikoden fan, you'll also notice I snubbed one of the main entries and most of the spin-off/gaiden games. I'll say right now, that I have to actually play Suikogaiden due to lacking the proper emulator, which is why

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Breath of Fire

Blah blah blah, made a list, blah blah blah, this is for games that didn't make it.

Anyone who simply glances over my list will notice I have a strong affiliation with Capcom's classic and underrated RPG series Breath of Fire. They will also notice I left one entry out of the list, and while my BoFII entry hints as to some of the reasons, I figured I would lay it out here

My Top 100's Lost but not Forgotten: Dragon Quest VII

I feel like the year 2001 was an odd year in gaming. One of the first time where you really felt like the end of an era and the beginning of a new one was coming. Sony was gearing up to release the successor to the smash hit PlayStation and if you looked around the gaming scene, it seemed like every company was jumping ship to get on board what the PS2 could do. Square had released their PS1 swan song FFIX even though they would still support the PS1 with

My Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten: Arc the Lad II

You know the drill by now...

One of my all time favorite publishers in the 90s for video games was Working Designs. It was a company that actually tried to get a lot of cool JRPGs released in the West long before the actual JRPG boom in the last years of the decade. I've already spoken about their most high profile title they ever worked on, Lunar: The Silver Star Story,
