Well, I know that most of this has come to be after KHII FM became available here, so people have been using that version as the gold standard. However, I am annoyed that II is being treated as objectively better for the above reasons - people have different plat styles and the command deck simply has a different niche to fill than the more vanilla ARPG combat in KHII.

Btw, got sick today trying to do the time Attack of Hollow Bastion part II for the trophy. Worst part is, I didn’t even manage to get he trophy, but I did manage to beat the world on critical, so whether I manage to get the time Attack trophy for the last world or not, if I beat it on critical (which should happen no problem), I’ll unlock the secret video and that’ll be it for me when it comes to coded. I’ll be taking a break of sorts from games after that.

Don’t even get me started on that one. The KHII circlejerk is so strong nowadays it’s not even funny anymore

Sorry for not replying so long. Busy weekend. Im also still working through your magnet message becausecof this

It’s good to hear the optional bosses have been such fun so far. Honestly, I’m just more sad I do t have a PS4 with that collection yet because of all this But wh, Maine somedat. Meanwhile I’m still missing six trophies in coded to unlock the secret ending, but I got the most challenging stuff oit of the way. And of course, I got the Ultima weapon and it basically doesn’t matter anymore since everything is cakewalk now anyway. As obnoxious as synthesis can be, at least in past game’s you could get the Ultima Weapon at a point where you could still uses - here you get it for clearing the toughest secret sector and beating the optional boss, and there’s literally nothing tougher than that left. 3D has the same problem where you got the UW for beating Julius

I agree, though my personal reasons for whining in this cases is just that I have this automatic repulsion to games that use the mobile/MMO format, in that they try to suck you in and addict to grinding so much. KH is still one of the better games in this format, but I still kinda need to force myself to play it. Bye, did you know Hiroyuki Ito is a co-Director on this game?

I’ll send you my feedback on the story in a magnet message, I kinda feel that’s be better

Yeah, he's one of the most entertaining music theory channels out there, if you ask me. I can't really tell for sure because of my background, but I feel he does a pretty good job explaining some complex concepts in very simple terms. I kind of feel like 8Bit Music theory, for example, as much as I love him, kind of fails to achieve that - but maybe he doesn't set out to do that after all since he's pretty much just doing musical analysis.

As for Union X, I'm taking another break because I just need to get mentally prepared for another 50 years in Agrabah (why is it always Agrabah? Why is it in so many games? Same with Wonderland, tbh). I'm only level 80, so that number feels kinda overkill if you ask me Let me just tell you this - the missions around here do have some interesting story bits, but it's not like stuff really starts going down yet. There's one very interesting aspect that I think is worhtwhile, but overall the status quo remains firm so far.

And yeah, agreed about the villains, but I also feel like the OG KH villains have really grown into their own. Even in I Ansem was cool - though he was pretty flat then, Billy Zane's performance as him really stole the show, if you ask me. Then we got the Organization which, true, never really lived up to the potential they presented in CoM, but games after II have really gone on to add some much needed depth to them and they're still one of my favorite aspects of the series. And then there's Master Xehanort who's a delicious ham that I always look forward to seeing more of. While it's a shame that we can no longer have the legendary Leonard Nimoy to voice him, they got Rutger Hauer as a replacement and I think that's a really fantastic choice. Heck, I even really like Young Xehanort, though it's mostly for his implications than his personality per se. I'm also kind biased because his voice actor is a gigantic dork who is really all into this madness (his Twitter handle is "Duly Norted") and that's really improved my enjoyment of the character. Xemnas is really the odd one out, since I kinda feel the writers never really knew what to do with him, though his Cold Ham performance is still very memorable.

Btw have you made it to mission 250 yet? I have. It was not what I expected and now I’m back in Agrabah again, which sucks, but at least the story but was interesting in a completely different way than expected.

Nifty. Reminded me of another video I know.

The only saving grace is "gladly I am biased and the fairytale makes my 11-year old self happy". Also if you only see it as "your version" then there is no real meaning behind trying to convince somebody of it. It would also render what you did a waste of your own time except if you did not actually want to convince me but only said that stuff to tell me your feelings of how to cope with these aircraft-sized plotholes.

As for my feelings on his continual existence, I feel that my uncertainty comes mostly from the fact I prefer the idea he was metaphorically still with Riku as opposed to actually being there, even though the latter is the canon explanation of what's going on.

    - Your idea requires a lot of mental gymnastics and disregarding information though. I do not see how that is of any help. Kingdom Hearts itself already disregards its own things and that is also not good.

Kingdom Hearts own mythos seems to be moving in the direction that a person is the sum of their parts.

    - Kingdom Hearts definitely established that the essence of the entity is its ... *drums* hearts and with it the perceptional instance and it very admirably followed that concept earlier with emphasis mainly on that. It was also very easily seen in situations like when Xehanort overtook Terra's body with the transfer of his heart. And that is only the tip of the iceberg. It is not my view which I project, it is axiom level psychology. The instance to perceive reality is the most important instance when it comes to the dynamics of personality and in case of a personal entity it is not just the "consciousness" but also called the "Ego" as of course we have a sense of self. Sora perceived his fall into darkness. Not how he met Xemnas. Because the essence was formerly not estabished to be the Nobody. Same for Xehanort, Scar and all the others. Xemnas also puts emphasis on that ALL Heartless still contain the "Self" because he says they creates Heartless to experiment how to seperate those from the Self. KH became whacky but it still did a very good job following their concepts. Until now. I somehow get the feeling you are trying to tell me some stuff about the lore but I am aware of the lore. All of it that has to co-exist and co-relate. That is the very problem.

As for communication issues, I think it may stem from both of us just having very different way of viewing things. You strike me, and forgive me I'm off-based here, as someone who is very literal and just the facts. Whereas I'm the type of person who can't accept things at face value and I try to find other meanings or perspectives to look at things. Unfortunately, that means I tend to repeat things that are understood because I'm both trying to make clear we're on the same page, but I'm also constantly mulling over the information to see if there is something I missed or a different angle I can see it in. That's not to say I feel everything has subtext and other meanings, but things that don't rarely hold my attention. You said you preferred concrete answers and official explanantions, but I honestly prefer speculation.

Sadly, I'm not sure if you'll rectify these inconsistencies within the story of KH because as you know, Nomura purposely leaves gaps in explanations because he thinks it's fun for fans to speculate on the matter. So you may never get an official explanation and have to rely on your own conclusions instead.

    - People always say that but this is an alien concept to me. Of course I am a fact-based person. That does not mean just face-value though. It means context-specific information and yes, it also requires turning stones around more than once to see everything, that is the very reason why I can even get all the information to evaluate. I am a scientist. That does not mean I have no romantic side with a sense for magic. As a matter of fact I am a very spiritualistic person but everything belongs to its time and place. It sounds less like you want to "investigate more" but more like you just want to go for what you like more which seems supported by comments like you preferring things you say over canonical (adjective) explanations. What good does it do for one to once you decide you do not want to follow a concept or do not have enough of a concept to suddenly make up your own stuff? It is void of any value. It will never be the truth. It results in a paradox if all fans are right with their explanation - which they do not even have the decisive power to be. If that is the way we might as well throw the stories out of the window and write our own completely from scratch. It is also why Quantic Dream games are very hard to digest for me even though I enjoy their narrative. But I need a set a path. "You are all winners, don't worry, none of you lost, none of you was wrong" is not an answer. For every context their is a context-specific answer to be sought after. If an authoritive instance does not use his power to create an answer that is of consistency and it gets large-scaled as in KH then this is torture.

So far the most enjoyable part of writing the thing is the banter between the brothers, as I feel that comes out pretty organically. The hardest part is the mystery stuff, because it’s hard to provide clues without devolving into an info dump. It’s nothing major though and I’m sure I’ll iron it out during an edit.

by Wolf Kanno on 12-10-2023 at 06:09 AM
Since I'm doing a marathon, I thought it would be fun to list the games that are distracting me from actually finishing said marathon.

FFXV ~ MGS: Peace Walker and SaGa Scarlet Graces
FFXIII ~ Breath of Fire 1-3 and MechCommander Gold
XIII-2 ~ Romancing Saga Re:Universe and FF: Opera Omnia

Will update more in the future...

Projects!!!

by Wolf Kanno on 01-28-2021 at 07:40 AM
Oof, I've been a bit out of sorts with my mental health lately, and I think it's about time I do something about that. I've got a lot of balls in the air so to speak concerning projects I've been doing around the forum both past and present. So I'm thinking about tackling a few of them, but with how I've been feeling lately, I want some second opinions I guess. Of the projects I've abandoned, what should I work on next?

Here's where I'm at for the moment:

WK's Top 100 Lost but Not Forgotten : Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together

by Wolf Kanno on 05-24-2020 at 11:43 PM

I'm always split on these articles. So many of these games are great and I have retroactively said a few of them made the list, but occasionally something comes along that I really want to love but the game just won't let me. Tactics Ogre is in a weird place for me because the remake and the original are pretty different in some meaningful ways, so much of this review pertains to the remake due to having only played a little bit of the original.

WK's Top 100's Lost but Not Forgotten List: Silent Hill 3

by Wolf Kanno on 05-03-2020 at 01:37 AM
Is this honestly the first non-RPG on this list?

Well I fell into the Silent Hill series rather late. By the time I had played the series, the "glory years" were over and fans were knee deep in Konami trying to take the series in a different direction without Team Silent. I was a huge fan of the first two entries of the series, being instantly sucked into the second entry and surprised how much I really enjoyed the first one. So it came as a bit

WK's Top 100 Lost But Not Forgotten: SaGa Frontier 2

by Wolf Kanno on 04-05-2020 at 02:32 AM
I was having a serious reservation about whether I was going to add this to my Top 100 list or place it here. I decided it would go here for now, but part of me feels it could be like Demon's Souls and make the jump to My Top 100.

SaGa is a weird franchise. A JRPG series made for enthusiast who feel they've seen it all. From the Gameboy entries where you built a ragtag group filled with robots and monster to climb a tower/tree to visit
